Mackenzie Mgbako commits to the Indiana Hoosiers

The world finally knows where Mackenize Mgbako will be playing college basketball next season.

Mgbako, a 6-foot-8 210-pound five-star small forward out of Roselle Catholic (New Jersey), announced his commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers and head coach Mike Woodson on social media Friday. 

Mgbako originally committed to Duke in April 2022, but requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent with the Blue Devils last month.

The McDonalds All-American chose the Hoosiers over fellow finalist Kansas. 

Mgbako was also strongly considering St. John's and Louisville prior to announcing that Indiana and the Jayhawks were his top-2 schools earlier this week. 

He'll be joining a promising 2023 recruiting class in Bloomington. The Hoosiers' incoming class is currently ranked No. 34 in the country and No. 4 overall in the Big 10 conference.

The Hoosiers picked up a big commitment in the transfer portal when they acquired former 2022 five-star recruit and Oregon 7-foot freshman center Kel'el Ware. 

Four-star guard Gabe Cupps, four-star combo guard Jakai Newton and three-star transfers Anthony Walker and Payton Sparks also make up some of the notable signees that are a part of Indiana's incoming class.

Mgbako is ranked as the nation's No. 12 overall prospect in 2023, No. 5 small forward and New Jersey's No. 3 overall prospect according to On3.

The highly-coveted recruit is expected to make an impact right away with Indiana. In his senior season, Mgbako averaged 16.3 points and 9.2 rebounds in 16 games this season for Roselle Catholic. 

Since Mgbako has announced his decision, there is only one last uncommitted class of 2023 boys basketball recruit that remains. 

The basketball world is still waiting on former five-star Texas commit Ron Holland to make a decision.

Is there a possibility Holland joins Mackenzie Mgbako in Bloomington? 

We'll have to find out.
