Devin Brooks, coveted Clackamas offensive lineman, commits to Oregon over USC, Washington

Clackamas (Oregon) three-star offensive lineman Devin Brooks projects as a guard at the collegiate level

>>> Did Oregon Ducks official visitor  hint at commitments for Oregon?

The Oregon Ducks hosted a collection of official visitors this weekend, and have already picked up a verbal commitment.

On Sunday morning, Clackamas (Oregon) three-star offensive lineman Devin Brooks informed Dan Lanning and the coaching staff that he was ready to commit, choosing the Ducks over fellow finalists USC and Washington, as well as offers from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Miami, Penn State, Stanford and others:

"It lifted a lot of weight off my shoulders," he said. "I've been feeling this for awhile. I like the direction that Oregon is heading. Oregon has always been a dominant football program and I like where they are going. I see myself going into that program and making a change."

For Brooks, building a relationship with new offensive line coach A'Lique Terry was a major key in his recruitment.

But Terry won't be alone in coaching up the Clackamas star.

"Coach Terry is the best," Brooks said. "It's a special opportunity, because it's his first time having a position group to himself. But it's also coach (Mike) Cavanaugh and coach (Cutter) Leftwich in the room, so having six eyes on you in the room is helpful. The connection I have with those coaches in amazing. They make it feel like family."

The versatile 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman has been projected to play all over the line at the collegiate level, but Oregon views him as a guard.

Brooks is the second in-state offensive linemen in Oregon's class, joining West Salem offensive tackle Trent Ferguson, a 6-foot-7,  300-pound athlete who has played just four games of football but tests off the charts as an athlete.

Oregon's 2024 recruiting class currently consists of 15 pledges and is rated No. 7 nationally.
