Former North Carolina signee Simeon Wilcher commits to St. John's
Rick Pitino strikes again.
Simeon Wilcher, one of the top high school boys basketball prospects in the class of 2023, has committed to the Red Storm.
He joins former Notre Dame commit and four-star wing, Brady Dunlap, as the only other class of 2023 high school recruit on St. John's roster.
Last week, the Roselle Catholic (New Jersey) four-star shooting guard requested a release from his National Letter of Intent from North Carolina. Wilcher originally committed to the Tar Heels in October 2021.
His request comes soon after five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau reclassified into the class of 2023 and star guard RJ Davis elected to return to Chapel Hill for another season.
Wilcher's decommitment was first reported by 247 Sports' Travis Branham. Wilcher, a 6-foot-4 185-pound shooting guard, is ranked as the nation's No. 36 overall prospect in 2023, No. 6 shooting guard and New Jersey's No. 4 overall recruit.
Wilcher has already heard from Louisville, Texas Tech, Indiana, Seton Hall, Xavier, St. John's and many others, according to 24/7 High School Hoops.
St. John's appeared to be a frontrunner after Wilcher's visit with the Red Storm last week. He met with legendary St. John's coach Lou Carnesecca and was very impressed with his visit, according to Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.
According to On3, St. John's had a 91.2% chance of landing the highly coveted guard, while North Carolina and Nebraska were the next suitors for Wilcher with less than a 5% chance of landing him.
