Danny Okoye, nation's No. 6 defensive end, sets imminent commitment date, names final 3

Noah Homeschool (Oklahoma) four-star athlete Danny Okoye, the nation's No. 6 defensive end, is ready to make his college decision.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound edge-rusher announced a top three of Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas on Sunday, and set a September 20 commitment date:

Okoye is fresh off a game-changing visit to Oklahoma last week, which led to him potentially cancelling official visits scheduled to both LSU and Tennesee.

"Yeah, I mean, I'll see what happens," Okoye told SBLive Sports. "The OU (official visit) kind of scrambled my brain a little bit and also scrambled my schedule, so we'll see where the road takes it." 

While the in-state target had been to Norman before, his trip marked an important first.

"It was definitely different," Okoye said. "I've never been to Oklahoma on a gameday with (Brent) Venables there. Being in that environment with the energy that he brings, it was definitely a change of pace."

Less than a week after those comments, Okoye has set a commitment date.

All signs point to him becoming a Sooner.

The recruiting industry agrees.

On3 gives Oklahoma a 95 percent chance of landing Okoye, while the lone 247Sports prediction favors the Sooners. 

If, in fact, he does choose Oklahoma, the Sooners would add to what is already a stellar defensive front group in the class of 2024.

That collection of talent is led by IMG Academy (Florida) five-star defensive lineman David Stone, but is bolstered by Melissa (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith II, Rogers (Minnesota) four-star edge-rusher Wyatt Gilmore and IMG Academy four-star defensive lineman Jayden Jackson.
