Prediction: Oregon Ducks poised for huge recruiting hot streak

Oregon is set to begin a big-time hot streak on the recruiting trail

The Oregon Ducks have been red hot on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, a streak that is likely to continue with a pair of mammoth additions.

Dan Lanning's run began in early September with the commitment of Yelm (Washington) All-American linebacker Brayden Platt, then continued late last month with class of 2026 Desert Mountain (Arizona) five-star defensive lineman Tony Cumberland.

Over the weekend, Oregon against struck gold - this time securing the commitment of College of San Mateo (California) cornerback Sione Laulea, the nation's No. 1 junior college prospect.

But Oregon isn't done.

Not by a long shot.

Prediction: More to come

O'Dea (Washington) All-American Bowl selection Jason Brown, the nation's No. 6 running back and No. 1 uncommitted ball-carrier, is formally down to Michigan State, Oregon and Washington.

But given the turmoil around Mel Tucker's Spartans, the battle feels like a Northwest clash.

In recent weeks, Brown has taken two visits to Eugene and Oregon is considering the overwhelming favorite to secure his commitment.

I made my prediction September 22, and my feeling has only grown strong.

Brown will be a Duck.

This weekend solidified another potential "get" for Oregon.

Back in early July, Salpointe Catholic (Arizona) five-star recruit Elijah Rushing, the nation's No. 8 overall prospect and No. 1 edge-rusher, committed to Arizona over Oregon.

But there was always some question about whether that pledge would stick.

Although those rumblings remained relatively quiet for some time, they picked up major steam in the past few weeks, culminating with Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi being spotted at Rushing's game Friday night.

Before the weekend was over, Rushing decommitted from Arizona.

The Ducks are viewed - recruiting industry-wide - as the overwhelming favorites to land the 6-foot-6, 251-pound edge.

I made my initial prediction following Rushing's decommitment, and, once again, I feel even better about it now.

Then there's Mater Dei (California) five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland, the nation's No. 6 overall prospect.

Breland is down to Georgia, Miami and Oregon and is set to announce his commitment Saturday.

While the Bulldogs are considered to be significant favorites across the recruiting industry, I've been told the Mater Dei star's recruitment will be one of the most difficult to predict in the class of 2024.

I don't think Oregon should be counted out at all (Dan Lanning was at his game Friday night).

Update: Aydin Breland buzz grows; On3 lists Oregon as the new favorite

Oregon should add the nation's No. 1 edge-rusher and No. 1 uncommitted running back soon - with hopes of a late shocker for another five-star defensive lineman.

Cue the Dan Lanning cigar smoking meme.
