Jericho Johnson visiting Washington, high on Oregon ahead of key trip

Armijo (California) four-star defensive tackle Jericho Johnson is one of the nation's top uncommitted defensive linemen.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound All-American Bowl selection is down to a top four of Oregon, USC, Utah and Washington - with the Ducks rumored to hold an edge over the field.

But this weekend's result could go a long way toward solidifying Johnson's feelings about his finalists, as he is visiting Seattle for the top-10 clash between Washington and Oregon.

He also admits he'll be keeping a close eye on both programs during the trip.

"i’m excited for this game... looking forward to seeing who’s really the better team," Johnson said.

Washington has made it known to the talented defender that he is a key to its recruiting class. 

Given his status as the nation's No. 109 overall prospect and No. 18 defensive lineman, that's far from a surprise. 

"I'm their 'top priority' as far as defensive recruits go, so they are pressing hard to get me," Johnson said.

Still, Oregon may stand in the way.

Johnson has been high on the Ducks for some time and his recruitment dates back well over a year.

"Oregon is a great team with a great coaching staff," he said. "They always emphasize how much they need me and how much of an impact I'll have with their program."

While the outcome of the Washington-Oregon match-up is unlikely to directly impact Johnson's decision, he can't wait to watch college football's marquee matchup this weekend. 

"It’s a big rivalry and both teams have been having an outstanding season ranking in the top 10," he said. "I’m just excited to see both teams get after it and to see who comes out on top."
