Riley Leonard visiting Notre Dame this week; Duke star quarterback schedules trip: Report

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Duke's Riley Leonard has scheduled a visit to Notre Dame

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in the quarterback transfer market.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Duke Blue Devils star quarterback Riley Leonard will visit Notre Dame on Wednesday and Thursday.

The 6-foot-4, 212-pound signal-caller has thrown for 4,069 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions with 1,051 yards and 17 scores rushing over the past two seasons.

Prior to his junior season, Leonard was viewed as a potential NFL first-round draft pick, but missed multiple games with injuries.

The Duke product would be entering a deep class of quarterbacks if he were to declare for the NFL draft, and will instead look to further solidify himself as a top quarterback prospect by returning to college football for another year.

Notre Dame is looking to replace Sam Hartman, who had a stellar senior campaign in South Bend after transferring from Wake Forest.

The Athletic had previously reported that Leonard's likely destination was Notre Dame.

So, the news of his visit is not only not a surprise, but seems to further confirm the possible pairing.

Recruiting profile

Coming out of Fairhope (Alabama) in the class of 2020, Leonard was a three-star prospect, rated the nation's No. 58 quarterback and chose Duke over offers from Nebraska, Ole Miss, Syracuse and others.
