LaRue Zamorano, key California target, visiting UCLA, USC this weekend

Centennial (California) four-star defensive back LaRue Zamorano is eager to visit the two Los Angeles schools this weekend

One of the top defensive backs in the state of California is set to check out a pair of local options this weekend.

Centennial (California) four-star defensive back LaRue Zamorano will visit both the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans, which marks return trips for each school.

For UCLA, however, it's been some time since the 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back was last on campus.

"I’ve been up there as a kid," Zamorano said. "I really haven’t been up there since I’ve been being recruited by other schools, so I’m looking forward to it. They have a great coaching staff... met a few of them last year at a camp. So, I'm excited to connect with them."

The bluechip defensive back was last at USC a year ago in the spring, so he's hoping to get reacquainted with the old staff and connect with the new.

"I've always been in conversation with Bookie (Radley-Hiles), but I have not met Coach (Doug) Belk or the new DC yet," Zamorano said. "Last year, I was a sophomore. Now, I'm going into my senior year and I would like to see what all USC has to offer."

The Trojans, he said, are a "top contender" for his services, and he believes the defensive woes of the program are soon to be a thing of the past.

"I think with the new change of staff you’re going to see a very fluid and downhill-pace defense," Zamorano said. "I heard great things about the new corner coach and the (defensive coordinator). I’m excited to see what the future holds."

Following his local visits this weekend, the California product also hopes to check out Michigan State, Oregon, Washington and others.

As for official visits, that will have to wait.

"For the officials, I will probably start setting them up this summer," he said.
