Ava Brown, Jada Munoz headline 2022 Texas Softball State All-Tournament Teams

AUSTIN, Texas — Montgomery Lake Creek junior pitcher Ava Brown and San Antonio O'Connor senior second baseman Jada Munoz headlined a star-studded group of Texas high school softball standouts selected to the 2022 UIL Softball State All-Tournament teams.

Brown and Munoz were voted MVPs of the Class 5A and 6A state championship games, respectively, after spectacular performances that helped lead their schools to their first state titles on the softball diamond.

Brown, who's verbally committed to play for the Florida Gators, started both games in the circle and hit clean-up in both of Lake Creek's games during the Class 5A UIL Softball State Tournament.

She threw 14 innings with 17 strikeouts, two earned runs and no extra-base hits allowed in the circle during state-championship weekend. Brown was also 5-for-8 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI.

Munoz, a McNeese State signee, provided pivotal home runs in both of San Antonio O'Connor's matchups in the Class 6A UIL Softball State Tournament, including a game-tying blast in the bottom of the seventh inning in the state title game.

She finished the weekend 3-for-7 offensively with five RBI, three runs scored and two home runs. Munoz was the only player at any classification level with multiple home runs at the state tournament this year.
