TCU commit Zack James wasn't supposed to start in the Texas (UIL) Class 6A state semifinals on Friday in Round Rock.

But he got the call and went the distance, throwing a complete game to help Lewisville Flower Mound upend Cypress Woods 6-3.

James (10-2) got the victory for his two-strikeout, eight-hit, three-earned run, two walk performance.

The Jaguars jumped all over Cypress Woods, considered by many a state favorite, from the opening pitch. Flower Mound poured in four runs in the first and nursed as much as a five-run lead into the final innings.

Cypress Woods scored three in the bottom of the fifth to pull within two runs, but the Jaguars held on.

They move on to face the winner of Austin Westlake and Pearland in the 6A championship Saturday at 4 p.m.
