Vote now: Who is the best high school boys wrestler in the nation at 113 pounds?
As the high school wrestling seasons come to a close across the country, SBLive is unveiling a fictitious tournament — let’s call it the SBLive National Mock Invitational — featuring eight of the top boys wrestlers from across the United States in each weight class.
Over the next several weeks, we will unveil the weight classes one at a time then ask you, the reader: Who would emerge victorious in matchups between the best wrestlers from New England to Southern California, and everywhere in between?
The leading vote-getter in each weight classification will be crowned mock national champion — and all the winners will be announced atop the would-be podium.
We opened with 106 pounds, the smallest weight class. Up next: 113 pounds. Scroll down to read up on the field and cast your vote. Voting will close Sunday, March 5 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
SBLive's National Mock Invitational: Meet the 113-pounders
Bo Bassett, Bishop McCort (Pennsylvania)
One of the country’s best freshmen regardless of weight class, Bassett was an eight-time junior champion in Pennsylvania. He also has a gold medal in freestyle from the Cadet World Championships. Bassett will not get a chance to compete for a state title this year as Bishop McCort is serving a postseason ban for recruiting violations.
Nathan Desmond, Bethlehem Catholic (Pennsylvania)
As a freshman, Desmond won the Class 3A state championship at 106 pounds. The sophomore will be going for another title this winter.
Jayden James, Delbarton (New Jersey)
James was a standout youth wrestler with multiple national titles in folkstyle and freestyle. The freshman will be facing stiff competition as he goes for his first state title next month.
Chris Kiser, Ponca City (Oklahoma)
Kiser recently defeated Oklahoma State commit Beric Jordan, 4-3, at the 6A East Regional. The junior was the 106-pound state champion a season ago.
Jake Knight, Bettendorf (Iowa)
Knight, a freshman, won the Class 3A state title at 113 pounds this season. He is the son of Bettendorf head coach Dan Knight, who was an undefeated four-time state champion in high school.
Mack Mauger, Blackfoot (Idaho)
A U16 Triple Crown winner and four-time Fargo champion, Mauger will wrestle in college for Missouri. The junior is a two-time Class 4A state champion.
Seth Mendoza, Mt. Carmel (Illinois)
Mendoza cruised to a second straight Class 3A state title, winning by technical fall in the finals. The sophomore finished the season 37-2 and is looking to become a four-time state champion for Mt. Carmel.
JoJo Uhorchuk, Signal Mountain (Tennessee)
Uhorchuk was the Class A state runner-up at 106 pounds as an eighth-grader last season. He won a middle school national championship later in the year and is the favorite to win his first state title as a freshman.
