The Alabama (AHSAA) high school basketball playoffs will be in full swing by this time next week, as area tournaments wrap up this weekend.
Here's a look at 10 Alabama basketball stars to watch in the post-season.
10 PLAYERS TO WATCH IN AHSAA PLAYOFFS
JaMicah Adair, Junior Guard, Jefferson Davis
One of the very best players in the Montgomery area is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound shooting guard who is leading the Volunteers with 35 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists a game. He holds an offer from Alabama State.
Devin Barksdale, Sophomore Guard, Jacksonville School
Last season, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound Barksdale gave Jacksonville a spark during their state title run as the sixth man coming off the bench. This year, he’s running the show from the point guard position, and most of the Golden Eagle offense flows through him.
John Broom, Senior Guard, Jacksonville School
Broom makes up one half of the Golden Eagles’ impressive back court. The 6-foot-5, 170-pound, three-star prospect is averaging better than 20 points a game and remains committed to the University of South Alabama.
Dewayne Brown, Sophomore Center, Hoover
The dynamic 6-foot-6 center averaged a double-double in the regular season with better than 16 points and 11 boards a game. He and guard Salim London have picked up offers from Ole Miss.
Jonathan Caicedo, Senior Forward, Hoover
The 6-foot-7, 210-pound transfer from Orlando has fit Hoover (26-3) like a glove, routinely turning in double-doubles to compliment star sophomore center Dewayne Brown. Caicedo has received interest from Samford and Tennessee State, among others.
Julius Clark, Senior Forward, Mountain Brook
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound forward shines in his ability to get to the basket, but has also shown a flair for the dramatic on defense, with some insane blocks his senior year. He holds an offer from Marion Military Institute and several juco programs.
Ty Davis, Junior Guard, Mountain Brook
Mountain Brook’s 6-foot-5, 175-pound guard has lit up the scoreboard this season, averaging a little more than 19 points a game to go with 6.1 assists and 5.2 rebounds. He holds offers from Ole Miss, Samford and Indiana State, among others.
R.J. Johnson, Senior Guard, Grissom
The highest-rated senior in the class of 2023, according to 247sports, is a 6-foot-3, 190-pounds combo guard who has averaged 21.4 points and better than eight rebounds per 26.5 minutes on the court. The three-star prospect committed to Alabama.
Labaron Philon, Junior Guard, Baker
The 6-foot-4, 180-pounds phenom is the state’s highest-rated player in any class. Through 28 games, he’s averaged 35.3 points a game. The four-star recruit is currently committed to Auburn.
Javen Poindexter, Junior Guard, Red Level
The Tigers’ star guard is a 6-foot-3, 150-pound scoring machine is averaging better than 31 points a game. He has the Red Level in position to clinch the area championship with a win over Pleasant Home Friday night.
