CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Sierra Canyon ended its dominant run in the Gold Coast League with a dominant 100-59 win over Windward on Tuesday night. The victory pushed the Trailblazers league win streak to 68 games, which is where it will end with Sierra Canyon joining the Mission League next season.

Tuesday night was also Senior Night, an evening Trailblazers head coach Andre Chevalier always appreciates taking part in.

"We got to honor the guys that have been here with us and have put up with me for a year or two or three or four, I definitely enjoy that," Chevalier said. "For us to finish this league on the win streak that we have I think is a big deal and I enjoy having the crowd back too."

Star senior and UCLA signee Amari Bailey paced Sierra Canyon with 22 points. The Trailblazers led 27-18 after one quarter and the clock ran in the fourth. In the end, six Trailblazers finished in double figures. Windward freshman Gavin Hightower led all scorers in the game with 24 points.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE POSTSEASON

With only one game remaining in the regular season, Chevalier admitted this year's Sierra Canyon team must improve to reach the level past Trailblazer teams have been at this late in the year.

"We still have a little ways to go," he said. "We've had no consistency this year with lineups, injuries and COVID so we've just got to get to a place of being consistent, playing hard and playing together."

Sierra Canyon still wasn't at full strength on Tuesday -- senior forward Shy Odom and senior point guard Ramel Lloyd, two starters, didn't play -- but Chevalier remains confident his group will get better and once again challenge for a championship.

"It's going to take a lot of commitment and focus, but I think we can do it."

Southern Section playoff pairings come out on Tuesday, February 8th. Expect Sierra Canyon to receive the No. 2 seed in the Open Division next week with Corona Centennial likely being No. 1.
