SBLive’s LA City Section Baseball Top 10: Granada Hills still No. 1 heading into home stretch of regular season

The Highlanders are 3-1 in the West Valley League so far this year.

1. Granada Hills (16-4-1)

Last week: 1

Granada Hills begins a two game series with Taft this week. 

2. Birmingham (14-8)

Last week: 2

The Patriots went 2-2 in Las Vegas last week. Birmingham plays a two game series against No. 3 El Camino Real this week. 

3. El Camino Real (14-8)

Last week: 3

ECR swept No. 5 Chatsworth with 6-5 and 8-0 wins two weeks ago. Last week, the Royals went 2-2 in the Lions Tournament in San Diego. Santana High School, one of the top teams in the state, beat ECR 6-5 on a walk-off single on the final day of the tournament. 

4. Roosevelt (15-5)

Last week: 4

Roosevelt has lost to No. 7 Palisades and No. 10 Cleveland this season, but beaten No. 5 Chatsworth and No. 6 San Pedro. The Roughriders are 6-0 in the Eastern League and have won five games in a row since senior pitcher Lino Zepeda threw 7 and 2/3 innings and struck out 13 in a 1-0 defeat against No. 1 Granada Hills on March 23.

5. Chatsworth (10-9)

Last week: 5

Chatsworth beat Alemany 9-7 last week. Barry Menjivar had three RBI's in the win. 

6. San Pedro (11-7)

Last week: 6

A week after losing to No. 1 Granada Hills 12-3, San Pedro responded with a 9-0 win over St. Paul last Saturday. Zack Geiss struck out eight and allowed only one hit on the mound. Matt Borges went 4-for-5 with three doubles and two RBI's. Gio Crow hit his third home run of the season. 

7. Palisades (13-6-1)

Last week: 7

Palisades went 1-3 in the Lions tournament in San Diego last week. The Dolphins lone win came against Vista Grande (Ariz.) 6-4. 

8. Sylmar (13-6-1)

Last week: 8

Sylmar took down Taft 1-0 (nine innings) and North Hollywood 5-1 last week. Frank Garcia threw eight innings and had ten strikeouts in the win over Taft. Matt Benzor got the win and Favian Pinon had the game-winning RBI. 

9. Poly (13-7)

Last week: 9

Poly beat No. 10 Cleveland 3-2 three weeks ago. Jessie Pineda threw a complete game and struck out seven in the win. Diego Ortega had the game-winning RBI. Two weeks ago, the Parrots beat North Hollywood and lost to Southern Section power Sierra Canyon

10. Cleveland (10-8)

Last week: 10

Cleveland swept Taft to get back to .500 (2-2) in the West Valley League two weeks ago.
