SBLive’s Southern Section Baseball Top 25: JSerra ends the season at No. 1 in CIF-SS rankings

SBLive’s Southern Section high school baseball rankings are compiled by SBLive reporter Connor Morrissette and are released weekly throughout the season. 

SBLIVE SOUTHERN SECTION TOP 25 BASEBALL RANKINGS

1. JSerra (25-11)

Last week: 2

JSerra won the first Division 1 crown in school history this season 3-1 over No. 2 Notre Dame. 

2. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) (25-9-1)

Last week: 6

The Knights put together a great season. They tied with No. 6 Harvard-Westlake atop the Mission League and advanced all the way to the Division 1 Southern Section championship game. 

3. Huntington Beach (25-9)

Last week: 7

Huntington Beach took down No. 1 JSerra in the Division 1 CIF State Southern Regional championship on Saturday 2-0. In the Southern Section playoffs, the Oilers lost in the semifinals 2-0 to No. 2 Notre Dame. 

4. Villa Park (28-6)

Last week: 4

Villa Park won the Boras Classic South Tournament championship this season. The Spartans also advanced to the semifinals of the Division 1 Section playoffs and the Division 1 State Regional playoffs. 

5. Orange Lutheran (25-5)

Last week: 1

Orange Lutheran was No. 1 in the Section for most of the season, but the Lancers lost to No. 2 Notre Dame in the Division 1 Southern Section quarterfinals 5-4 in eight innings. 

6. Harvard-Westlake (22-8-1)

Last week: 5

The Wolverines split the Mission League title this season. They fell in the Division 1 Southern Section quarterfinals 6-1 to No. 1 JSerra. 

7. Foothill (20-10)

Last week: 3

Foothill won the Crestview League this season thanks to two late April regular season wins over No. 4 Villa Park. 

8. Cypress (23-6-1)

Last week: 11

Cypress won the Empire League and then beat No. 9 Servite in the second round of the Division 1 Section playoffs 5-2. The Centurions fell in the quarters to No. 4 Villa Park 4-2. 

9. Servite (17-12)

Last week: 8

The Friars ended the season in third place in the Trinity League. They took down Corona del Mar 3-2 in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs. 

10. Santa Margarita (19-11)

Last week: 13

The Eagles finished the season in fourth place in the Trinity League. Following a first round Division 1 playoff win over No. 19 Trabuco Hills, Santa Margarita lost to No. 7 Foothill in round two on a walk-off. 

11. Etiwanda (27-9)

Last week: NR

Etiwanda got red hot at the end of the season to claim the Division 2 Southern Section championship. The Eagles beat No. 13 Torrance 6-1 to win the title. 

12. San Dimas (20-7)

Last week: 18

San Dimas fell to No. 4 Villa Park 3-2 in the second round of the Division 1 Southern Section baseball playoffs. In round one, the Saints beat Arcadia 3-2. 

13. Torrance (25-7-1)

Last week: NR

Torrance fell to No. 11 Etiwanda 6-1 in the Division 2 Southern Section championship game. 

14. Maranatha (24-8)

Last week: NR

Maranatha dropped two games at the end of the season to No. 13 Torrance in the Division 2 Southern Section semifinals and to No. 11 Etiwanda in the Division 2 CIF State Southern Regional playoffs.

15. Pacifica (Garden Grove) (21-9)

Last week: 20

Pacifica won two games in the Division 2 Southern Section playoffs over Temescal Canyon and No. 17 Sierra Canyon. 

16. La Mirada (22-7-1)

Last week: 22

The Matadors won the Suburban League with an 8-0 record. In the Division 1 Southern Section playoffs, La Mirada took down Thousand Oaks 4-0 before falling to No. 9 Harvard-Westlake 9-0. 

17. Sierra Canyon (26-4)

Last week: 14

Sierra Canyon lost in the second round of the Division 2 Southern Section playoffs to Garden Grove Pacifica 5-2. Trailblazers pitcher Jaden Noot cemented himself as one of the top arms in the country in this season. He ended the year with 0.216 ERA. 

18. Arlington (27-2)

Last week: 9

Arlington won 27 games in a row this season but lost to No. 13 Torrance in the second round of the Division 2 playoffs. 

19. Trabuco Hills (23-6)

Last week: 24

The Mustangs won the Seaview League, but fell in the first round of the Division 1 Southern Section playoffs 13-10 to No. 10 Santa Margarita. 

20. Capistrano Valley (17-11-1)

Last week: 23

Capistrano Valley won the South Coast League with a 10-2 record. The Cougars fell in the second round of the Division 1 Southern Section playoffs 4-2 to No. 1 JSerra after beating No. 22 Corona 5-4 in round one. 

21. Norco (24-6)

Last week: 10

Norco won the Big VIII League with an 11-4 record, but lost in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs 3-2 to Lakewood. 

22. Corona (19-10)

Last week: 12

Corona finished in second place in the Big VIII League. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Division 1 Southern Section playoffs 5-4 to No. 20 Capo Valley. 

23. El Dorado (17-13)

Last week: NR

El Dorado beat Yucaipa in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs 3-2, which pushed the Golden Hawks into the end of year Top 25. 

24. Bonita (19-7)

Last week: NR

Bonita took down Damien 6-1 in the first round of the Division 1 Southern Section baseball playoffs. In round two, the Bearcats fell to No. 5 Orange Lutheran 10-5. 

25. Tesoro (28-8)

Last week: NR

Tesoro won the Division 4 Southern Section title and D4 state regional title this season. The Titans won both crowns over Fullerton.
