California girls volleyball: Durango Classic takes center stage in Las Vegas

Tournaments for some top teams, league play beginning for others. Our list of top matches begins in Nevada.

Let’s just relocate to Las Vegas for this weekend’s Durango Fall Classic, Friday and Saturday. 

The 64-team, two-day tourney features many California powerhouses, including teams from the SBLive Top 20: 

  • No. 2 Cathedral Catholic-San Diego
  • No. 4 Redondo Union-Redondo Beach
  • No. 5 Marymount-Los Angeles
  • No. 8 Mater Dei-Santa Ana
  • No. 9 Lakewood
  • No. 12 Archbishop Mitty-San Jose
  • No. 15 Torrey Pines-San Diego
  • No. 20 Vista Murrieta

Other top California teams include Branson-Ross and Liberty-Bakersfield. 

History lesson: Marymount, which went on to an undefeated season and No. 1 national rankings, won last season's Durango Classic, defeating Mater Dei in the finals.
