Northern California man arrested for numerous death threats to high school after state-title football game: Report

The National Federation of State High School Association's concerns of fan behavior has hit a new low. 

According to a report by the Southern California News Group, a Northern California man has been arrested in connection with death threats to members of a Southern California school, its staff and players, following the results of a state championship football game. 

Eugene Thomas Jenkins, reportedly a "fanatic" of Bellarmine College Prep-San Jose sports teams, allegedly sent at least 10 death threats by the U.S. Postal Services, along with other threats of general violence to the Laguna Hills High School campus via bombs and gun attacks.

The threats reportedly began shortly after Laguna Hills' 28-27 state-title win over Bellarmine-San Jose on Dec. 10 at San Jose City College. 

According to sheriff's Sgt. Mike Woodroof, emergency response units were supplied by the Orange County sheriff's deputies to all the threats, which included one to last week's Laguna Hills' graduation ceremony. 

Jenkins, 29, has never attended or had any affiliation with Bellarmine, according to Bellarmine school officials. How Jenkins was identified as a suspect was not disclosed by Woodroof. 

Among the charges against Jenkins, booked in an Orange County jail, are a false report of a bomb, criminal threats, threatening a public officer, threatening phone calls and a false report of an emergency. At least 14 victims have been identified. 

Jenkins, of San Rafael, was arrested Monday and is being held without bail.  

The NFHS and its 51 state members have addressed boorish fan behavior at games in recent years with an uptick in violence and arrests. In 2022, the NFHS launched a nationwide campaign that addressed bad behavior and lack of respect.
