Furian Inferrera, top 2027 high school quarterback prospect, enrolls at Mater Dei
Mater Dei (California) is in an elite class of high school football powerhouses.
The program appears to have landed one of the nation's most promising young arm talents who hasn't played a high school snap.
Highly touted incoming freshman Furian Inferrera has enrolled at Mater Dei for his freshman season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound pro style quarterback moved from Nevada to California and enrolled at the Santa Ana school, he told the OC Register.
He already has offers from Hawaii, Nebraska, Utah Tech and Pittsburgh — the latter two rolled in June 2022, after he'd just finished seventh grade — and attended the USC and UCLA camps in recent weeks.
In an interview with BVM Sports in October, Inferrera told said he was considering Mater Dei, St. John Bosco (California) and Bishop Gorman (Nevada) for high school — all perennial national powerhouses.
He'll have a talented QB room to compete with at Mater Dei, which finished No. 2 in the nation last season.
Senior Elijah Brown is returning starter under center for the Monarchs and is poised to be a four-year starter. Sophomore Cole Leinart, son of former Mater Dei great and Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart, also is set to return.
Mater Dei has won five mythical high school national championships and has not lost more than a game since 2015 while playing a competitive non-league travel schedule.
The program has a long list of quarterbacks who have gone to excel at the college and pro levels. In April, former Monarch signal-caller Bryce Young was selected No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft.
McManus, a Monarchs longtime assistant, replaced Bruce Rollinson, who retired after a 47-year career as a coach at Mater Dei in February.
It's rare for an eighth grade quarterback prospect to field a high major Division I offer. Oregon offered Alabama eight grade quarterback Trent Seaborn, who lead Thompson to an Alabama Class 7A state title last fall as an eighth grader.
Seaborn is the top rated 2027 QB prospect in the country, according to QB Hit List. Inferrera is No. 4.
