TORRANCE, Calif. - The future is now.

King/Drew, one of the youngest teams in the CIF-LACS, has a chance to win its first ever Open Division title next week after defeating Birmingham 62-56 in the semifinals on Saturday at El Camino College.

Donald "Trey" Thompson, a junior, led the Golden Eagles with 20 points and both sides with nine rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. Sophomore Jayshawn Kibble recorded 16 points, three assists, and two blocks, and Josahn Webster, another sophomore, chipped in 12 points and three assists. Semaj Howard, a freshman, added eight points, and Kameron Gates – the lone senior in King/Drew's starting lineup – totaled four points, eight rebounds, and two assists.

Birmingham was led by Alex Dupre, who had a game-high 27 points plus five rebounds. Mandell Anthony scored 14 points for the Patriots, with nearly all of them coming in the third quarter. Deshawn Banks added six points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
