Carlsbad takes over the top spot after dominant victories against Cathedral Catholic and Rancho Bernardo last week

La Costa Canyon lost their first game of the season on Saturday, dropping the Mavericks from the top spot in the San Diego Section. Carlsbad and Cathedral Catholic, who faced off last Tuesday, move into the top two spots in this week's rankings.

1. Carlsbad (4-0)

Last week: 2

The Lancers have scored 39 runs in four games, most recently beating Rancho Bernardo 9-0 on Friday.

2. Cathedral Catholic (4-1)

Last week: 6

The Dons dropped their first game of the season to Carlsbad last week, but bounced back to shutout previously top-ranked La Costa Canyon 3-0 on Saturday.

3. La Costa Canyon (3-1)

Last week: 1

The Mavericks have allowed six runs in four games but were unable to score in Saturday's loss at Cathedral Catholic.

4. Torrey Pines (5-0)

Last week: 8

Torrey Pines has used dominant pitching and timely hitting, jumping out to an unbeaten start. The Falcons have a team ERA of 0.85 in 33 innings.

5. Patrick Henry (4-1)

Last week: 3

The Patriots bounced back from a shutout against Torrey Pines by beating San Pasqual and Mt. Carmel to close out last week.

6. Granite Hills (3-1)

Last week: 7

The Eagles lost at La Costa Canyon on Tuesday but got a no-hitter from Chandler Henry in Friday's win over Del Norte.

7. Rancho Bernardo (0-1)

Last week: 4

One of the last teams in San Diego to open their season, the Broncos lost at Carlsbad 9-0 on Friday. They'll host rival Poway on Monday.

8. St. Augustine (3-1)

Last week: 9

The Saints split two games with San Marcos last week, losing Wednesday's game that was rain-shortened to five innings.

9. Eastlake (3-2)

Last week: 5

The Titans lost for the second time in three games, losing at Madison 4-3 on Wednesday. They'll play three times this week including at Granite Hills on Friday.
