Vote: Who should be SBLive’s Central Florida Boys Basketball Player of the Week (1/8/2023)?

We’ve selected 27 candidates for your consideration

Central Florida boys basketball players lit up the scoreboard and more in the first week of 2024.

We looked at teams from Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard, and Indian River counties and nominated 27 athletes for the SBLive Central Florida Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 2-6, 2024.

We ask you, the fan, to decide who should the top player selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 11:59pm and will be announced in next week’s poll.

Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. The poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are this week's nominations:

Brandon Bass, Jr., Shooting Guard, Windermere Prep: Talented 6-foot-5 sophomore pumped in 23 points to lead the host Lakers (10-4) past Centennial (Port St. Lucie), 59-48, in the championship game of the BSN Holiday Classic. He also scored 19 points in a 57-39 victory against Westminster Christian (Miami).

Cooper Flagg, Forward, Montverde Academy: The talented 6-9 senior turned in a stellar effort with 29 points and nine rebounds to lead the unbeaten Eagles (15-0) past CATS Academy of Boston, 105-58, in Maine.

Javi Rowell, Point Guard, Mount Dora Christian: Senior scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs past Cornerstone Charter Academy (Belle Isle), 61-50. He also pumped in 13 points in a 53-51 loss to South Lake (Groveland), and 22 points in a 49-45 win against Apopka.

Jayden Lebron, Guard, Cornerstone Charter Academy (Belle Isle): The 6-3 senior recorded 16 points for the Ducks in a loss to Mount Dora Christian.

Riley Michels, Small Forward, Foundation Academy (Winter Garden): Talented 6-5 junior poured in 26 points to push the Lions past South Lake (Groveland), 68-61, in overtime. He also had 21 points in an 86-43 win against Lake Mary Prep.

Isaiah Pina, Power Forward/Center, South Lake (Groveland): The 6-6 sophomore recorded 18 points in a loss to Foundation Academy (Winter Garden). Earlier, he scored 12 points in a 53-51 win against Mount Dora Christian.

Mikey Madueme, Small Forward, Lake Highland Prep (Orlando): Athletic 6-5 sophomore notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Highlanders past Trinity Prep (Winter Park), 66-39. He also had 12 points and seven rebounds in a 49-41 win against The Rock National.

Adrien Quiros, Shooting Guard, Trinity Prep (Winter Park): Senior pumped in 19 points in a loss to Lake Highland Prep (Orlando).

Mateo Medina, Guard, The Geneva School (Casselberry): Talented freshman recorded a game-high 28 points and six assists in a 72-69 double-overtime loss to Calvary Christian (Ormond Beach).

Josiah Shackelford, Guard, Seminole (Sanford): Senior turned in another strong performance in a 78-65 victory against Osceola (Kissimmee), recording 26 points, six rebounds and three assists. He also scored 28 points in a 75-39 triumph against Lyman (Longwood).

Jordan Mundle, Guard/Forward, Osceola (Kissimmee): The 6-2 junior scored 26 points in a loss to Seminole (Sanford).

Asa Kohn, Point Guard/Shooting Guard, Hagerty (Oviedo): Turned in a strong effort with 19 points, two rebounds and two steals in a 75-39 victory against Bayside (Palm Bay).

Nathan Kirk, Point Guard, Mainland (Daytona Beach): Star sophomore turned in another spectacular performance with 27 points, six rebounds, two assists and five steals in a 64-58 victory against Riverside (Jacksonville).

Mo Kamara, Power Forward/Small Forward/Center, University High (Orlando): Talented 6-8 junior poured in a career-high 35 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Cougars past Mitchell (New Port Richey), 75-66, in the Greg O’Connell Holiday Shootout at Springstead High. He also had four blocks. Earlier, he recorded 26 points and 12 rebounds for another double-double in a 72-46 win against Armwood (Seffner).

Daren Leath, Shooting Guard, Apopka: The 6-1 senior scored 15 points to propel the Blue Darters past Davenport, 52-40. He also had 17 points in a loss to Mount Dora Christian.

Vophcy Prophete, Guard, Olympia (Orlando): The 6-5 senior pumped in 18 points to lead the Titans in a hard-fought 49-44 loss to Little Rock (Ark.) Central in the Tampa Slam Invitational.

Lorenzo DeJesus, Guard, The First Academy (Orlando): Poured in 29 points to lead the Royals (8-5) past Seabreeze (Daytona Beach), 68-46, in the Nathan Hayes Shootout at Mount Dora Christian.

John Dunlap, Forward/Wing, Seabreeze (Daytona Beach): Senior scored 20 points to pace the Sandcrabs in a loss to The First Academy (Orlando).

AJ Johnson, Forward, Atlantic (Port Orange): The talented 6-4 senior dropped 17 points on Lake Buena Vista in an 84-69 victory.

Bryan Mwangovya, Utility, Lake Buena Vista: Senior scored 19 points in a loss to Atlantic (Port Orange).

Gabe Haynes, Point Guard, Gateway (Kissimmee): Junior scored 16 points to propel the Panthers past Faith Christian (Orlando), 67-62.

Jaelen Spellman, Forward, Faith Christian (Orlando): Senior poured in 17 points to pace the Lions in a loss to Gateway (Kissimmee).

Alex Springs, Small Forward/Shooting Guard, St. Cloud: Recorded 26 points, three rebounds and two steals to lead the Bulldogs past Celebration, 71-33.

Scott Verboncoeur, Small Forward/Power Forward, The Master’s Academy (Oviedo): The talented 6-6 senior recorded 21 points and six blocked shots to spur the Eagles past Gateway (Kissimmee), 79-59.

Hakeem Alvena, Small Forward, Poinciana (Kissimmee): Senior pumped in 19 points in a 71-66 loss to Foundation Academy (Winter Garden).

Jaeden McMillan, Guard, Holy Trinity Episcopal (Melbourne): Sophomore made the game-winning shot to help the Tigers beat Rockledge, 72-70, in overtime in a battle between two of Brevard County’s best teams.

Ryan Blount, Guard, Rockledge: Senior scored a game-high 32 points in a hard-fought loss to Holy Trinity Episcopal (Melbourne).
