Running back/linebacker E.J. Lightsey, who in December led Fitzgerald to its first state championship since 1948, is in stable condition after being shot Monday night, according to UGASports.com.

Lightsey is reportedly alert and talking after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in Fitzgerald on Monday night. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Lightsey was one of the best linebackers in the state this past season for Fitzgerald and signed with Georgia after de-committing from Florida.

Fitzgerald Police Chief William Smallwood Jr. told Mark Schlabach of ESPN that Lightsey was shot multiple times at a park around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Lightsey was probably an uninvolved bystander, Maj. James Reynolds of the Fitzgerald Police Department told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Lightsey told police he was in the park working out at the time of the shooting, CBS46 reported.
