SBLive’s Top 25 in Georgia high school baseball: Undefeated teams comprise the top 5
The top 5 in this week's rankings are all undefeated, while nine-time state champ Parkview is on the cusp of falling out of the top 10 as the Panthers struggle to score.
The rankings cover all classifications.
1. Buford: 3-0
Last week: 1
Buford got started with region play in a series against Shiloh. The Wolves won the first two matchups and will look to complete the sweep Monday. Buford has yet to allow a run this season while scoring 27 runs in three games.
2. Houston County: 5-0
Last week: 2
Houston County is averaging almost 10 runs a game and took down Hartselle, one of the top-ranked baseball programs in Alabama.
3. Loganville: 5-0
Last week: 5
Loganville went 3-0 over the weekend in the Lakepoint tournament. The Red Devils scored 28 runs over the weekend, taking down Decatur, Savannah Christian and East Paulding.
4. Allatoona: 6-0
Last week: 6
Allatoona went 3-0 in the Lakepoint tournament, behind a hot bat of Ethan Sutton and good pitching performances from Riley Gaskins.
5. Mount Paran Christian: 6-0
Last week: 9
Mount Paran is playing some phenomenal baseball. The Eagles have scored 62 runs while allowing only seven.
6. Lassiter: 5-2
Last week: 8
Lassiter is on a four-game win streak, including wins over Parkview, North Oconee and Walton.
7. North Oconee: 5-1
Last week: 7
North Oconee went 2-1 last week. The Titans started the week off with a tough loss to Lassiter but then rebounded with wins over Brookwood and Wayne County.
8. Marist: 2-2
Last week: 4
After two big wins over Blessed Trinity and Columbus, Marist fell to Creekview. The Eagles played great defensively, allowing only one run, but the bats didn’t show up.
9. Parkview: 2-3
Last week: 3
The Panthers have lost three of their last four games and failed to score over four runs in any of them.
10. Lambert: 5-2
Last week: 15
Lambert went 3-0 in the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament vs. Pope, Franklin County and Norcross.
11. Greenbrier: 7-1
Last week: 18
Greenbrier rebounded after its loss to Savannah Christian with four straight wins, scoring 29 runs in that stretch and allowing only one.
12. Pace Academy: 5-0
Last week: 19
Pace Academy has been on a tear in its five games, with four straight games scoring double-digit runs, and four games holding its opponent under two.
13. Walton: 6-2
Last week: 23
Walton has won five of its last six games with the one loss being against No. 6 Lassiter.
14. Woodstock: 3-3
Last week: 11
Woodstock has lost three of its last four games and looks to get back on track vs. Kell on Wednesday.
15. Carrollton: 4-3
Last week: 12
Carrollton has had an inconsistent start to its season. The Trojans have had a loss in between each of their wins but are coming off a win over North Springs.
16. North Hall: 3-3
Last week: 13
North Hall went 1-1 in its doubleheader vs. Rabun Gap over the weekend and fell to North Forsyth earlier in the week.
17. Wesleyan: 4-2
Last week: 14
Wesleyan traveled south and lost 10-1 at Providence (Jacksonville, Florida), and then beat Florida State University High School (Tallahassee) 6-4 in Valdosta.
18. Pope: 5-3
Last week: 10
After a 4-0 start to the season, Pope has lost three of its last four games.
19. Denmark: 3-1
Last week: 21
Denmark went 2-1 last week, starting with a loss to Cherokee Bluff then two wins over Central (Alabama) and Brookstone.
20. Savannah Christian: 5-1
Last week: 25
Savannah Christian has wins over East Paulding, No. 11 Greenbrier and most recently a 10-0 victory over Decatur.
21. Lovett: 5-2
Last week: 23
Lovett went 2-1 in the Georgia Dugout Club tournament, with wins over Oconee County and North Forsyth, but a loss to Perry.
22. Valdosta: 5-2
Last week: unranked
Valdosta is on a three-game win streak, including taking down Lowndes and Florida State University High School.
23. Etowah: 6-1
Last week: unranked
Etowah has won six straight, including wins over Cartersville, Campbell and its most recent 7-0 win over St. Pius.
24. Glynn Academy: 6-0
Last week: unranked
Glynn Academy has been putting on a show this season. The Terrors had a span of three games in which they scored 46 runs.
25. Benedictine: 4-2
Last week: 20
Benedictine played well in its last two wins after losing 21-12 to Glynn Academy.
