Pope baseball 1B/3B/RHP Kent Schmidt voted SBLive’s Georgia High School Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Pope baseball 1B/3B/RHP Kent Schmidt for being voted SBLive’s Georgia High School Athlete of the Week for April 4-10!

The junior was locked in as he went 4-for-4 with a triple and drove in two runs, then went 2-for-2 with a home run against Walton.

Schmidt received 44.8% of the vote, beating out Parkview's Landon Stripling who finished second with 40.93%. North Oconee's Justin Byrd finished third with 12.24% and Buford's Soph Martelli finished fourth with 0.58%. There were over 30,000 votes tallied this week!

Here are the other athletes who were nominated for April 4-10:

Justin Byrd, North Oconee baseball

Byrd was on fire in two games versus Jefferson, going 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and a grand slam.

Cade Cosper, Carrollton baseball

Cosper pitched a shutout, giving up just two hits, no runs, no walks and striking out nine in seven innings.

Landen Fernandez, Mountain View baseball

Fernandez was on fire at the plate, going 4-for-4 and helping Mountain View upset Lassiter.

John Glanton, Metter baseball

Glanton went all seven innings, allowing only one hit and striking out 10 in Metter’s win over Bryan County.

Jasmine Harmon, Westlake track and field

The junior took the No. 1 spot this season among Georgia runners with a 13.78 in the 100 hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational in California. She was also on the winning 4x100 team (Harmon, Madyson Wilson, Colleen Branch, Imari Johnson) that set the national mark this season at 45.59 seconds.

Ezra Hoffman, Mountain View soccer

Hoffman scored four goals in a 6-0 win over Providence Christian to become Mountain View's all-time leading goal scorer.

Caroline Hood, Pace Academy track and field

The sophomore ran the fastest mile (5:09.70) and 3,200 meters (10:37.93)in the state this season at the All American Track Classic.

Yash Jain, South Forsyth baseball

Jain pitched a gem versus North Forsyth. He threw a complete game, gave up only one run and had nine strikeouts.

Kaniya Johnson, Lowndes track and field

After running the second-fastest 200 meters in the state the previous week, Johnson ran the second-fastest 100 in Georgia this season with a PR of 11.49.

Soph Martelli, Buford soccer

The freshman scored a hat trick to lead undefeated Buford past Johns Creek 6-0.

Jake Streeter, North Springs baseball

Streeter showed off his power as he went 2-for-3 with two homers and five RBIs against Chamblee.

Landon Stripling, Parkview baseball

Stripling had the best of both worlds in a win over Bolles. He threw five innings, allowing only one run and striking out eight batters, and he went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Brayden Whitworth, Roswell baseball

Whitworth had a big day at the plate against North Cobb, going yard on the first pitch of the game and ending the day with three hits.

Madyson Wilson, Westlake track and field

The senior took the No. 1 spot this season among Georgia runners with a 43.04 in the 300-meter hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational in California. She was also on the winning 4x100 team that set the national mark this season at 45.59.
