Vote: Who should be South Georgia football player of the week (11/21/2023)

We've combined offense and defense this week as the number teams still involved in the playoffs dwindle

We've reached the state quarterfinal round of the GHSA state football playoffs in all classes. With each round teams go home and the pool candidates for our Player of the Week polls dwindle. Thus, for this week, we have combined offense and defense into a single poll.

Read up on this week's five candidates below and let us know your pick. Voting will conclude on Saturday, November 25th at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced next week.

Editor’s Note: Our Player of the Week feature and corresponding poll are intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. However, we do not allow votes that are generated by script, macro or other automated means. Athletes who receive votes generated by script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified.

Congratulations to last week's winners: Grant Moore of Brunswick and Temirez Williams of Lee County.

Here are this week's nominations:

Jaden Dailey, Camden County: The Wildcats shut out McEachern 26-0, and senior running back Jaden Dailey was a big reason why. Dailey rushed 17 times for 105 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Thomas County Central Defense: The Yellow Jackets defense was lights out in their 56-6 win over Jonesboro in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs. They intercepted Jamon Jones four times. Dannell Jester, Cam Brooks, Devin Ross and Kendarius Reddick each had a pick in the win.

Braxton Honer, Lee County: Trojans senior running back Braxton Honer made the most of his eight carries, rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns in a 50-6 win over Lovejoy in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

Mataye Youman, Harris County: Tigers senior running back Mataye Youman was a workhorse in their 42-7 win over Statesboro, rushing 22 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Jake Merklinger, Calvary Day: Cavaliers senior Jake Merkingler was efficient in their 49-0 shutout, completing 12 of 16 for 238 yards and three touchdowns. He had a quarterback rating of 156.3, two points shy of a perfect rating.
