Simeon needed five overtimes between the semifinals and final, but got the job done in the Public League playoffs to give retiring coach Robert Smith his eighth city title.

Meanwhile, Sacred Heart-Griffin moves back into the rankings.

Last week: 1

The Wolverines beat North Lawndale 74-54 and then had an memorable finish to the Public League playoffs, outlasting No. 5 Curie 64-60 in quadruple overtime and getting past No. 3 Kenwood 72-64 in overtime.

2. Benet (27-1)

Last week: 2

The Redwings pushed their winning streak to 11 games by beating St. Patrick 65-35 and No. 25 Marist 60-53.

3. Kenwood (23-6)

Last week: 3

The Broncos beat Phillips 71-68 and Perspectives-Leadership 56-42 in the Public League playoffs before falling 72-64 in overtime to No. 1 Simeon in the final.

4. Joliet West (24-5)

Last week: 5

The Tigers have won nine in a row after beating Plainfield South 71-55 and Joliet Central 60-37.

5. Curie (19-10)

Last week: 8

The Condors beat No. 7 Young 75-60 in the Public League quarterfinals before dropping an epic 64-60, four-overtime decision to No. 1 Simeon in the semifinals.

6. Moline (27-3)

Last week: 6

The Maroons extended their winning streak to eight games by beating East Moline United 71-54, Sterling 73-64 and Normal 64-39.

7. Young (21-6)

Last week: 4

The Dolphins lost 75-60 to No. 5 Curie in the Public League quarterfinals.

8. Hinsdale Central (27-3)

Last week: 14

The Red Devils beat Prospect 64-48, Proviso West 73-51 and No. 14 Lyons 57-55 to extend their winning streak to 19 games.

9. Downers Grove North (25-3)

Last week: 12

The Trojans extended their winning streak to 12 games by beating Glenbard West 52-40 and Waubonsie Valley 59-42.

10. Brother Rice (26-4)

Last week: 18

The Crusaders beat LaPorte (Ind.) La Lumiere 59-51 and DePaul Prep 60-55.

The Trevians beat No. 22 Glenbrook North 50-33 for their eighth straight win. They're at 24-6 Niles North on Wednesday in the Central Suburban League title game.

12. Oswego East (24-5)

Last week: 23

The Wolves beat Waubonsie Valley 66-32 and Oswego 72-56 to extend their winning streak to six games.

13. Rolling Meadows (25-5)

Last week: 10

The Mustangs lost 57-54 to No. 22 Glenbrook North and beat Elk Grove 74-42.

14. Lyons (22-5)

Last week: 15

The Lions beat Oak Park-River Forest 72-57 and lost 57-55 to No. 8 Hinsdale Central.

15. St. Rita (19-10)

Last week: 20

The Mustangs beat Marmion 74-60, Loyola 54-32 and Crete-Monee 87-61 to extend their winning streak to five games.

16. Proviso East (21-6)

Last week: 17

The Pirates slipped past Willowbrook 71-68 and Downers Grove South 64-59.

17. Hillcrest (25-3)

Last week: 7

The Hawks had a 10-game winning streak snapped with an 84-64 loss to 19-5 T.F. North.

18. Hyde Park (22-6)

Last week: 9

The Thunderbirds lost to 19-11 Perspectives-Leadership for the third time this season, falling 61-59 in the Public League quarterfinals.

19. Metamora (26-2)

Last week: 19

The Redbirds pushed their winning streak to 24 games by beating Limestone 70-41 and East Peoria 60-50.

20. Bolingbrook (22-7)

Last week: 13

The Raiders had a five-game winning streak snapped with a 58-49 loss to Neuqua Valley before beating Lockport 55-49.

21. Lincoln-Way East (23-4)

Last week: 21

The Griffins knocked off Lockport 66-49 and Homewood-Flossmoor 60-55.

22. Glenbrook North (24-4)

Last week: 11

The Spartans beat No. 13 Rolling Meadows 57-54 and fell 50-33 to No. 11 New Trier after losing point guard/leading scorer Josh Fridman to a knee injury.

23. Sacred Heart-Griffin (26-3)

Last week: NR

The Griffins beat 25-3 Decatur MacArthur for the second time this season, 57-51, before losing 63-61 to Normal U-High and defeating Peoria 69-48.

24. Mount Carmel (23-6)

Last week: 24

The Caravan beat Providence 61-33 and lost 48-46 to St. Ignatius.

25. Marist (23-6)

Last week: 25

The RedHawks beat Nazareth 51-38 before having a six-game winning streak snapped with a 60-53 loss to No. 2 Benet.
