Johnston wins showdown with Valley; Clear Creek-Amana topples Solon

Johnston continues as the unquestioned No. 1 team in Iowa, while Clear Creek-Amana handed Solon its first loss of the season and moved up to No. 6 in our weekly all-class rankings. 

1. Johnston (8-0)

Aili Tanke (22 points) and Jenica Lewis (18) each hit four 3-pointers in a 67-50 win over No. 2 West Des Moines Valley. 

2. West Des Moines Valley (7-1)

Tigers rebounded Saturday from the loss to Johnston with a 54-46 win over Sioux City East.

3. West Des Moines Dowling (6-3)

Huge week for the Maroons with wins over Southeast Polk (63-41), Ankeny (55-38) and Pleasant Valley (43-36).

4. Davenport North (6-2)

Wildcats toughed out a 40-37 win over Ankeny Centennial on Saturday.

5. Waukee (7-1)

Sophomore Maryne Szalo led the Warriors with 15 points in a 51-37 win over Ankeny Centennial.

6. Clear Creek-Amana (7-0)

Ava Locklear had 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Clippers had one of the best wins of the week with a 58-37 decision over Solon.

7. Solon (7-1)

Spartans shot just 25.6 percent from the field in their 21-point loss to Clear Creek-Amana.

8. Dike-New Hartford (7-1)

Payton Petersen had 30 points and 16 rebounds in a 68-31 win over Hudson.

9. North Linn (7-1)

Kamryn Kurt is averaging 18.3 points, 5.8 assists and 3.6 steals while shooting 41.5 percent from 3-point range.

10. Ankeny (6-3)

Savannah Gage scored 27 points, hitting 5 of 7 from 3-point range, in a 79-61 win over Waukee Northwest.

11. Ankeny Centennial (3-5)

Jaguars will host crosstown rival Ankeny on Tuesday in a matchup that's extremely important to all involved.

12. Sioux City Heelan (7-0)

Abby Lee had 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Crusaders trailed by six entering the fourth before rallying for a 62-53 win over Estherville-Lincoln Central.

13. Pleasant Valley (6-2)

Spartans led Dowling 13-0 after one quarter but shot just 29.5% from the field in a 43-36 loss on Saturday.

14. Cedar Falls (7-1)

Grace Knutson leads Class 5A in scoring at 23.1 points per game.

15. Dallas Center-Grimes (8-0)

Great team win for the Mustangs, who rallied from 11 down entering the fourth to nip Cedar Rapids Xavier, 42-41.

16. Sioux Central (7-1)

Sophomore Avery Wilson had 22 points and five rebounds in a 63-52 win over Pocahontas Area.

17. Estherville-Lincoln Central (8-2)

Haylee Stokes had 18 points, nine steals and seven assists in a 57-55 win over Newell-Fonda on Tuesday.

18. Newell-Fonda (7-1)

Junior Kinzee Hinders led the Mustangs with 17 points and nine rebounds in the two-point loss to Estherville-LC.

19. North Polk (6-1)

At 4-0, the Comets are the lone unbeaten in the Raccoon River Conference.

20. Waukee Northwest (3-4)

Wolves end the 2023 portion of their schedule on Tuesday at home against Urbandale.

21. Sioux City East (5-3)

Black Raiders play at 8-1 Cherokee on Thursday before heading into the holiday break.

22. Southeast Polk (5-3)

Rams snapped a four-game losing streak with a 29-point win over Urbandale, getting 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists from Alyssa Bartlett.

23. Cedar Rapids Prairie (5-1)

Sophomore Emily Larsen leads the Hawks with 14 points per game, hitting 15 of 35 (42.9%) from 3-point range.

24. Waverly-Shell Rock (8-0)

Brenna Bodensteiner is hitting 47.4% (27 of 57) from 3-point range while averaging 14 points per game for the Go-Hawks.

25. Central Lyon (9-0)

Big challenge for the Lions on Thursday at Estherville-Lincoln Central.
