Michigan high school football Power 25: Belleville remains team to beat in 2023

Belleville has dominated Division 1 Michigan high school football the past couple of years. The Tigers have won the past two state championships and seem poised for another deep run this season.

However, the rest of the state is hungry to dethrone Belleville, and there are a lot of talented teams this year that have a championship in their sights.

Let’s take a look at some of the top teams in Division 1 for the 2023 season.

Belleville

The Belleville Tigers are once again one of the top teams in the state for 2023. They have won the last two state titles and show no signs of slowing down.

The Tigers biggest weapon is quarterback Bryce Underwood, who is the top player in not only the state of Michigan for the 2025 class, but the entire country. Not just the top quarterback, the top player, according to 247sports.com.

The Tigers are going to be very good once again, and expect them to be in the title race when the season closes.

West Bloomfield

West Bloomfield is another team that is going to be in the hunt this year. The Lakers last won the state championship in 2020 when Ron Bellamy was the coach. Bellamy is now with the Michigan Wolverines, but West Bloomfield is still a powerhouse program.

The Lakers are trying to get back to where they were in 2021. It’ll be tough to dethrone Belleville, but West Bloomfield will be a good challenger.

Rochester Adams

Rochester Adams has two big advantages over most of the state: a coach that has been there for a long time that is a proven winner, and Brady Prieskorn.

Head coach Anthony Patritto has had some fantastic seasons coaching Rochester Adams, and the most recent was in 2021 when Adams went 14-1. The Highlanders only loss was against Belleville in the state championship. Prieskorn is one of the best receivers in the state, and because of that, he’ll be suiting up for Michigan football next year.

Other contenders:

Cass Tech

Saline

Clarkston

Rockford

Southfield A&T

Chippewa Valley

Dakota

Prediction

At the end of the day, I can’t go against the Belleville Tigers. They have been too consistent over the course of the past two seasons, and I don’t see a team led by the best player in the country going down this season.

I think that the best team to give them a run for their money is West Bloomfield. I hope to see these two teams play in the playoffs at the end of the season because it would be such a fun matchup. If it does happen, I’m taking Belleville.
