BELLEVILLE, MICHIGAN — The defending MHSAA Division 1 football state champion No. 1 Belleville Tigers (6-0) have certainly not lost a step from a year ago. They improved to 6-0 on the season after a 35-8 win over the Glenn Rockets (5-1).

In the first half, John Glenn started the ballgame with a 60-yard offensive drive which resulted in Belleville stopping them in the red zone. From there on out it was all Belleville as the Tigers scored two touchdowns for a 14-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The second half wasn't much of a different story, as the Belleville offense added 21 points to the scoreboard while only allowing a Glenn touchdown within the last 25 seconds as Belleville took the win, 35-8.

Here are two takeaways from the game:

Bryce Underwood is as good as it gets

Top-rated quarterback in the country from the class of 2025, Bryce Underwood continues to display his spectacular skill as he totaled four touchdowns on the night, three through the air and one on the ground.

“We should have scored on more drives. I came up short on some,” Underwood said. “We are about to go back to the drawing board on Sunday and get better than we were today.”

The junior quarterback currently holds 48 scholarship offers, including schools like Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas and USC.

“The process has been good and enjoyable, it’s a great thing to have because not everybody has this experience,” Underwood said. “I’m just enjoying it.”

The 5-star quarterback recently visited Colorado and Penn State.

“It was a crazy experience and helped ease me into a position that I want to be in soon,” Underwood said. “Just getting to meet somebody like [Coach Prime] was a big accomplishment.”

Whoever gets five-star talent in 2025 will certainly have a generational talent on their hands.

Offensive attack for Belleville is potent

The Belleville offense has been stellar all year. It's totaled 246 points through five games on the year, and they added 35 more against Glenn.

On the second offensive play of the day for Belleville, senior Colbey Reed started the scoring attack as he took a handoff 70 yards to the house to make it 7-0 with 50 seconds left in the first quarter.

Shortly after, Underwood found Kevin Simes Jr. in the back of the end zone with 8:22 left in the second quarter to extend the Tigers' lead, to 14-0.

The third quarter saw three more Belleville touchdowns as Underwood connected to senior Adrien Walker Jr. for one, as well as finding Simes Jr. again for another, then Underwood would run one in himself to make it 35-0 with 4:51 left in the third quarter.

“My mindset is if they see me cool, calm, collected, they will be the same way,” Underwood said on the impact of his mindset on his team. “They feed off my energy and I feed off of theirs as well.”

Glenn kicked the game off with a 60-yard offensive drive, which lasted almost the full first quarter, but after that, it was all Belleville and the resilience of their defense.

The Tigers defense has only allowed 46 points through six games this season, as they almost produced their third shutout of the year, holding the John Glenn offense to eight points on the night.

“We just come out here every week and try to work,” Belleville linebacker and Michigan commit Jeremiah Beasley said. “Coach tells us to be better than the team across from us, strap our nuts on, and be physical.”
