Top 25 Michigan high school football rankings (10/23/2023)

Belleville won its 34th straight game Friday night, as they shutout Northville (8-1) by a score of 48-0 to secure a Kensington Lakes Athletic Association (KLAA) championship. Heading into the playoffs, the Tigers have outscored their last three opponents 151-0. 

Junior Belleville five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood finished his regular season with a six touchdown performance. Belleville’s first playoff game comes against Ann Arbor Huron (5-4) on October 27. 

Rockford concluded its regular season with a 48-0 victory over Hudsonville (5-4). With the victory, the Rams solidified themselves as Ottawa-Kent Conference (Red) champions. 

To begin the playoffs, Rockford has to take on West Ottawa (4-5) on October 27. 

Lake Orion came away with a 35-28 win in a tough matchup against Saline (8-1) Friday night to become Oakland (Red) Conference champions. 

The Dragons were able to put up almost 400 yards of total offense, including over 275 through the air. Lake Orion is set to face Oxford (4-5) in the first round of postseason play. 

The Bulldogs were able to take care of Fenton (6-3) 49-20 to secure a Capital Area (Red) Conference title. Mason gained over 350 total yards on offense, while they held Fenton to under 300. The Bulldogs have Linden (4-5) in the first round of district playoffs. 

Davison edged out a 56-55 victory over Lapeer (5-4) to win a Saginaw Valley (South) championship. It was the closest game Davison had been involved in since the first game of the season when it beat De La Salle (7-2) 31-26. Lapeer will get a chance to avenge its loss to Davison on October 27 when the teams meet in the district semifinal. 

Saline suffered its first loss of the season in a 35-28 loss to Lake Orion (9-0). Prior to Friday night, Saline had outscored its previous three opponents 144-7. 

Saline quarterback CJ Carr was spectacular in the first half, but Lake Orion’s defense was able to force him into costly mistakes in the second half. Saline is set to face Ann Arbor Pioneer in the first round of playoffs. 

The Lakers dominated Oak Park (3-6) en route to a 50-6 win. West Bloomfield’s 50 points is the most its scored in a game this season. On October 27, the Lakers have a familiar foe coming into town, Rochester Adams. West Bloomfield beat Adams 36-32 on September 22, and the season is on the line this time around. 

The Warriors got back on track with a 66-20 victory over Renaissance (4-5). Southfield A&T put up nearly 550 yards of offense, including almost 300 yards on the ground. Southfield A&T begins its playoff run against Fordson (4-5) in the district semi-final round. 

Eisenhower was able to defeat Clarkston (4-5) 36-19 Friday night and finish first in the Macomb Area (Red) conference. The Eagles accumulated over 400 yards of total offense, and nearly 200 rushing yards. Eisenhower has scored at least 31 points in three straight games, and it has a chance to beat its rival Utica for the second time this season on October 27. 

The Pilots easily handled Denby (8-1) to come away with a 56-6 win. Since its 28-23 loss to Central Catholic (Ohio), De La Salle has outscored its last five opponents 226-30. The reigning Division II state champions start the run for a repeat against Cousino (6-3). 

The Technicians fell to Central Catholic (Ohio) 48-23 Saturday night. Cass Tech was held to under 200 yards of total offense, and sophomore ATH Corey Sadler Jr. was its only bright spot. Cass Tech has to play Glenn (7-2) in the first round of playoffs on October 27. 

The Big Reds were able to shutout Wyoming (1-9) by a score of 58-0 to finish first in the Ottawa-Kent (Green) conference. Muskegon gained nearly 400 yards on offense, with most of it coming on the ground. Muskegon has to play Forest Hills Northern (6-3) next in a district semi-final game. 

Chippewa Valley had a bye week, and it was coming off of a 47-6 win over Mott. The Big Reds will kick off their playoff push against Sterling Heights Stevenson (4-5), whom they beat 38-21 on September 29. 

The Bulldogs came away with a 43-14 win over Jenison (1-8). Grandville was coming off of a 34-13 loss to Rockford, but they bounced back in a big way. Grandville rushed for over 350 yards Friday night, and it put up over 450 total yards. Grandville is set to play Hudsonville (5-4) in the first round of playoffs, which is a rematch from September 22 when Grandville won 44-37. 

The Mustangs took their first loss of the season in a tough 48-0 game against the top team in the state, Belleville (9-0). Northville was unable to get anything going on offense, gaining less than 100 total yards in the game. The Mustangs beat Brighton (5-4) 24-10 on September 8, and they’ll have to do it again in the first round of playoffs. 

The Rangers beat Greenville (2-7) 28-0 Friday night. It was Forest Hills Central’s third shutout of the season, and first since October 6. The Rangers accumulated over 330 total yards while holding Greenville to under 115. The Rangers have a chance to beat Lowell (6-3) for the second time this season when they meet in a district semi-final game on October 27. 

Walled Lake Western beat its rival Walled Lake Central (3-6) by a score of 63-25 to finish first in the Lakes Valley conference. 63 points is the second most points scored by the Warriors in a game this season, only behind the 66 points they scored against South Lyon East on September 29. Walled Lake Western is set to face Thurston (6-3) in the first round of playoffs. 

Dakota recorded its second consecutive shutout with a 31-0 victory over St. Mary’s (3-6). The Cougars gained 275 total yards Friday night while holding St. Mary’s to under 100. Dakota is set to play Lakeview (7-2) in the first round of playoffs. 

Grand Rapids Catholic Central was able to demolish Ottawa Hills (0-9) 42-0 and finish first in the Ottawa-Kent (Gold) conference. The Cougars accumulated almost 350 yards on offense, and Ottawa Hills gained just over 100. Grand Rapids Catholic Central appears to be on a roll heading into the playoffs, and Benton Harbor (4-5) is the first team in front of them in the postseason. 

Caledonia defeated Grand Haven (1-8) by a score of 56-21. Caledonia’s only losses in the regular season came against Grandville (7-2) and Rockford (9-0). The Fighting Scots have to face Portage Northern (9-1) next in a district semi-final matchup. 

Heritage was able to beat Arthur Hill (0-9) 57-12 Friday night. Following a 37-22 loss to Davison (9-0) on September 15, the Hawks have won five games in a row heading into playoffs. Heritage is set to play Traverse City Central (4-5) in the first round of playoffs. 

The Shamrocks recorded their second shutout of the season in a 35-0 win over Mumford (1-8). Detroit Catholic Central has scored at least 35 points in four straight games. The Shamrocks have a tough first round matchup against Novi (7-2) next. 

Corunna was able to secure a Flint Metro (Lower) conference title with a 31-7 victory over Armada (5-4). The Cavaliers put up nearly 400 yards of offense while holding Armada to under 150. Corunna will face Hamady (8-0-1) in a district semi-final on October 27. 

Portage Central defeated Lakeshore (5-4) 42-0 to finish first in the Southwestern conference. The Mustangs have rattled off seven straight wins after falling to Forest Hills Central on August 31. Portage Central has a tough matchup against Byron Center (8-1) next in the first round of playoffs. 

Mt. Pleasant was able to beat Linden (4-5) by a score of 30-13. The Oilers have managed to win every game since its week one 42-7 loss to Heritage (7-1). The Oilers are set to play Northview (4-5) in a district semi-final game on October 27.
