Belleville football routs Davison in Division 1 semifinal

The Tigers will play for their third straight title next week in the MHSAA state championship game

NOVI, MICHIGAN — It was a battle of the undefeated’s on Saturday afternoon at Novi High School as the Belleville Tigers (13-0) took on the Davison Cardinals (12-1) in what was, to many, one of the most anticipated matchups throughout the country.

The first half saw seven total touchdowns between both squads as they entered halftime with a 35-14 score with Belleville in the lead.

The second half was all Belleville as the Tigers outscored the Cardinals 28-7 to cruise to a dominating 63-21 win and their third-straight state championship appearance.

Here are two takeaways from the game:

Belleville’s offense surges over Davison defense

It was just another day in the office for Belleville’s offensive attack as they got it going against one of the best squads in all of Michigan.

The Tigers would get things going in the first quarter as Jeremiah Beasley took a short pass from Bryce Underwood for a 60-yard touchdown to put Belleville up, 7-0.

Shortly after, running back Colbey Reed would run for an 80-yard touchdown to extend the Tigers’ lead, 14-7, at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter with a little over eight minutes left would be when Underwood found wide receiver Kevin Simes for a score to put Belleville up, 21-7.

The Tigers would then score two more in the span of a minute as Underwood kept it for a rushing touchdown followed by Beasley finding the end zone for the second time on the day to give Belleville a 35-14 advantage heading into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Reed got things back going for the Tigers as he would score his second touchdown of the day. He would add two more as well later in the quarter.

Underwood  then find wide receiver Trey Graham for another Belleville touchdown.

“I give all the credit to my offensive coordinator and offensive coaches,” head coach Calvin Norman said. “They do a great job week in and week out at preparing the guys for the task that is at hand.”

Colbey Reed was a man amongst boys

If you were looking for yet another star on this deep and loaded roster of Belleville’s, well you better take a look at running back Colbey Reed.

After his 80-yard touchdown in the first quarter, Reed wouldn’t make too much noise until the fourth quarter, where he made all the noise that he could and then some.

Reed would find the end zone three more times in the fourth quarter, including some big runs to add to the spark of the Belleville offensive attack.

“I was quiet last week so coach told me to work hard in practice and show out today,” Reed said. “I came out here today and busted my ass.”

The senior finished the day with 228 total rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
