Boys’ Basketball

Tameron Ferguson, St. Cloud Tech

The junior point guard was three assists or three steals shy of a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals in an 89-67 win over St. Cloud Apollo on Feb. 14. His 31.1 points per game are second-most in the state.

Abdilahi Abdirashid, Higher Ground Academy

The sophomore power forward was four blocks shy of a triple-double, with 24 points, 20 rebounds, six blocks and four steals in an 89-67 win at Ubah Medical Academy, Feb. 15. 

Two days later, he scored 17 points and grabbed 15 boards and had four blocks in a 117-21 drubbing of Sciences and Agriculture. He’s seventh in Minnesota with 13.1 rebounds per game and eleventh with 32 blocks.

Trent Gomez, Two Harbors

The senior was two rebounds and two steals shy of a triple-double, with 28 points, eight rebounds and eight steals in an 85-45 win at Mesabi East on Feb. 13. His 96 steals are third-most in the state.

Jayden Moore, Hopkins

The freshman had 18 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in an 88-81 win over Minnetonka, Feb. 15. His 170 assists are second-most in Minnesota.

Kobe Karels, Cambridge-Isanti

The senior scored 26 points, had 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals in a 90-80 loss at Big Lake on Feb. 14. He followed that up with 29 points, seven boards and six steals in a 79-53 win at Becker on Feb. 17.

Girls’ Basketball

Maddyn Greenway, Providence Academy

The freshman guard set a short-lived record as the fastest player in Minnesota history to amass 2,000 points with 60 points in a 126-94 win at Minnehaha Academy, Feb. 17. She had a triple-double in that game, with 11 assists and 12 rebounds. She also had 41 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and six steals in an 88-59 win over Holy Family, Feb. 14.

Tori Oehrlein, Crosby-Ironton

The senior guard broke Greenway’s record with 28 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in a thrilling 59-58 win over New London-Spicer on Feb. 18. She was a rebound short of a triple-double, with 31 points, 10 assists and nine boards in an 86-64 win at Park Rapids on Feb. 16. She also scored 45 points and had 14 rebounds in a 93-41 rout at Pine River-Backus, Feb. 13.

Anna Stromberg, Legacy Christian

The junior forward had three double-doubles, with 20 points and 16 rebounds in a 62-46 loss to Heritage Christian, Feb. 14, 36 points and 20 boards in a 94-21 drubbing of Liberty Classical, and 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 55-38 win over New Life Academy. She leads the state with 382 rebounds and is second in rebounds per game (15.9).

Morgan Mathiowetz, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s

The eighth-grade guard had 23 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in an 88-63 win over Nicollet on Feb. 13. The next day she scored 21 points and had seven steals and six assists in a 76-38 rout at Springfield. 

On Feb. 16, she scored 23 points on nine-of-14 shooting, grabbed eight boards and had seven steals in a 76-54 win over Martin County West. She’s sixth in Minnesota with 127 assists.

Kate Thayer, Northome-Kelliher

The freshman had two double-doubles, with 16 points and 10 steals in a 62-44 win at Climax-Fisher, Feb. 13, and 30 points and 10 assists in an 86-14 rout of Laporte the next day. Her 175 steals lead the state.
