Warren Central's Brooks Willoughby voted SB Live Athlete of the Week (March 6-12)

The junior left-hander's dominant pitching performance against Northwest Rankin earned more than 10,000 votes

JACKSON — Congratulations to Warren Central pitcher Brooks Willoughby for being voted SB Live Mississippi’s High School Athlete of the Week for March 6-12!

The junior left-hander gave up one unearned run on two hits and three walks, striking out 13 batters in a 6-1 over defending Class 6A Champion Northwest Rankin.

Willoughby received 63.95 percent of nearly 16,000 fan votes, beating out West Union’s Greer Manning (19.5 percent) and Clinton’s Ethan Wiggins (15.9 percent).

Here’s a look at the other the nominees from last week:

Gavin Brassfield, Desoto Central

Went 5-for-9 at the plate over three games with three doubles, four RBIs and three walks. He also made one start, going six innings and allowing one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in a 6-1 win over South Panola.

Hank Eaton, Kossuth

Allowed just two hits and one walk in six innings of work, striking out 13 hitters in the Aggies’ 10-0 win over Water Valley.

Austin Hannigan, Lewisburg

Went 6-for-7 at the plate over two games with three doubles, five RBIs and a walk in a 2-0 week for the Patriots.

Addison Lindley, Germantown

Drove in the winning run with a walk-off, RBI double in a 3-2 win over Northwest Rankin. She also drove in three more runs with a single and a homer in an 11-8 loss to Brandon.

Greer Manning, West Union

Went 2-for-2 with two homers in an 18-4 win over Calhoun City, then went 2-for-3 with a homer in a 7-6 win over Ripley. He drove in a grand total of 12 runs in the two games.

Maddox Miller, Oak Grove

Allowed just one hit in six innings, didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11 hitters in a 3-0 win over Petal.

Carson Norwood, East Webster

Tossed a no-hitter in a region win over Nanih Waiya and went 7-for-10 at the plate with six RBIs in three games.

Griffis Sanders, Neshoba Central

Hurled an absolute gem against Ethel, allowing no runs two hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts in a 5-0 win.

Ethan Wiggins, Clinton

Went 5-for-10 at the plate with eight RBIs in a 4-0 week for the Arrows.
