Final 2022-23 SBLive Sports Missouri high school girls basketball Power 25 rankings: Incarnate Word wins sixth straight title

Incarnate Word (Class 6), Vashon (Class 4) and Lutheran St. Charles (Class 5) picked up state championships in the final weekend to round out the first three class champions of Meadville (Class 1), Tipton (Class 2) and Fair Grove (Class 3). 

Incarnate Word picked up an unprecedented sixth-consecutive state championship while pushing its winning streak to 100 games. Vashon captured the program's first state championship, while Lutheran St. Charles hammered down its first state championship since 2013.

Here's a look at the final SBLive Missouri Power 25 for the 2022-23 season:

1. Incarnate Word (32-0)

Last ranking: 1

The Red Knights hit the triple-digit part of their streak with their 100th win in a row. IWA cruised to its sixth consecutive state championship with a convincing 57-30 win over Rock Bridge in the Class 6 state championship. The 100 consecutive wins are the longest streak in the country and the state title is the program's 13th state championship, a Missouri record. Junior Kaylynn Janes led the way in the title game with 19 points.

2. Vashon (27-5)

Last ranking: 2

The long climb to the top of basketball was an arduous one for the Wolverines, but they got there. Vashon captured the program's first state championship with a 79-77 double-overtime victory over Benton in the Class 4 state championship game. Vashon clawed out of an 11-point deficit in the waning minutes of regulation to force overtime before outlasting Benton. Raychel Jones and Ja'Nyla Bush, both juniors, scored 24 points apiece in the title game.

3. Lutheran St. Charles (27-5)

Last ranking: 6

The Cougars captured their first state championship with a 44-39 victory over Carl Junction in the Class 5 state championship game. It's the program's first state championship since a Class 3 state championship in 2013. Lutheran St. Charles had to claw and fight for the state championship, giving up a six-point lead in the final minutes of the game before Jordan Speiser found freshman Kennedy Stowers for the go-ahead layup. Speiser finished with six points, four rebounds and three assists in the title game.

4. Carl Junction (30-2)

Last ranking: 4

The Bulldogs fell just short of their program's first state championship with a 44-39 loss to Lutheran St. Charles in the Class 5 state championship game. Carl Junction captured its second runner-up finish with the second-place finish, to go along with a Class 4 runner-up finish in 2018. The Bulldogs clawed all the way back to force a tie in the waning minutes of the game but couldn't get over the hump. Destiny Buerge led the way with 18 points and had seven rebounds in the loss.

5. Rock Bridge (24-8)

Last ranking: 9

The Bruins, the last team to hand the juggernaut program that is Incarnate Word a loss, couldn't snap the impressive streak and fell 57-30 in the Class 6 state championship game to the Red Knights. It's the first postseason hardware for Rock Bridge since a third-place finish in 2017. Mari Miller led the way with 12 points and had four rebounds with one assist in the loss.

6. Benton (27-4)

Last ranking: 13

The Cardinals' quest for its first state championship since 2016 came up just short. Benton fell in the Class 4 state championship game 79-77 to Vashon in double overtime. Andrea Simmons picked up a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Kelsey Johnson scored a game-high 23 points in the Class 4 state championship game. They picked up their third-straight postseason finish to follow up a 2022 runner-up finish and a 2021 fourth-place finish.

7. Raytown (25-3)

Last ranking: 3

The Bluejays locked up a third-place finish in Class 6 after making their first semifinal appearance. After losing to eventual Class 6 state champions Incarnate Word, Raytown followed it up with a 67-53 win over Eureka in the Class 6 third-place game. Summer Yancy scored a game-high 27 points and picked up 11 rebounds for a double-double. Lakorria Brown scored 12 points and had three assists.

8. Fair Grove (28-4)

Last ranking: 8

The Eagles captured their program's first state championship with a 54-52 victory over El Dorado in the Class 3 state championship game. Kameron Green led the way with 18 points and collected seven rebounds in the state championship victory.

9. West Plains (24-8)

Last ranking: 11

The 2022 Class 5 state champions got to the semifinal round for the third consecutive year. There, the Zizzers came up short against eventual champion Lutheran St. Charles, 71-50. West Plains rebounded with a 42-38 victory over Cape Notre Dame in the Class 5 third-place game. Olivia Lawson led the way with 16 points in the third-place victory. Kaylea Dixon scored 12 points, while Alyssa Joyner pulled down 10 rebounds.

10. Park Hills Central (28-4)

Last ranking: 7

The Rebels lost in overtime to Benton in a Class 4 semifinal round game, 55-48, before rebounding with a 57-39 victory over Southern Boone in the third-place game. It's the first trophy since winning the state championship in Class 3 in 2015. Central got a balanced scoring attack in the third-place game with Kinley Norris leading the way with 14 points. Taylor O'Connor and Allysa O'Conner added 12 points and 10 points respectively against Southern Boone.

11. Eureka (23-9)

Last ranking: 10

The Wildcats reached the semifinal round for the first time since 2014 and captured the Class 6 fourth-place trophy after falling to Rock Bridge in the Class 6 semifinals and losing to Raytown 67-53 in the Class 6 third-place game. It's the first trophy for the Eureka girls since a fourth-place finish in Class 5 in the 2014 season.

12. Meadville (31-0)

Last ranking: 12

The Eagles capped a perfect season with the Class 1 state championship. Meadville defeated Chadwick 39-28 to grab its first state championship since 1995. Korrie Holcer led the way with 18 points in the victory.

13. Cape Notre Dame (23-5)

Last ranking: 5

Reached the semifinal round for the first time since 2010 before falling to Carl Junction in the Class 5 semifinal round 37-33. The Bulldogs couldn't rebound in the third-place game, losing to West Plains, 42-38. It's the first trophy since a Class 4 second-place finish in 2010.

14. Tipton (31-1)

Last ranking: 14

The Cardinals blitzed to the Class 2 state championship with a 55-36 victory over Bishop LeBlond. Tipton got 23 points from Myra Claas to lead the way while senior Briar Cox picked up a double-double of 12 points nad 14 boards. It's the first state championship in program history.

15. Southern Boone (21-11)

Last ranking: NR

Got to the semifinal round for the first time since 2016 but ran into a couple of buzzsaws in Park Hills Central and Vashon. The Eagles lost to Vashon 55-40 in the semifinal round before getting beat 57-39 in the third-place game against Park Hills Central. It's the first trophy since a fourth-place finish in Class 3 in 2016.

16. Republic (26-4)

Last ranking: 15

The Tigers lost in the Class 6 quarterfinal round 50-43 to Raytown.

17. John Burroughs (26-4)

Last ranking: 16

The Bombers lost in the Class 5 quarterfinal round 46-35 to Cape Notre Dame.

18. Park Hill South (26-4)

Last ranking: 17

The Panthers lost to Rock Bridge in the Class 6 quarterfinal round 58-57.

19. Jefferson City (21-8)

Last ranking: 18

The Jays lost in the Class 5 quarterfinal round 58-38 to West Plains.

20. Troy Buchanan (20-10)

Last ranking: 19

The Trojans lost in the Class 6 quarterfinal round 68-26 to Incarnate Word.

21. Truman (23-3)

Last ranking: 20

The Patriots lost 58-51 in the Class 6 District 6 tournament semifinal round to Lee's Summit North.

22. Grain Valley (23-5)

Last ranking: 21

The Eagles lost 51-41 in the Class 6 District 7 title game to Rock Bridge.

23. Rolla (23-6)

Last ranking: 22

The Bulldogs lost 53-40 to West Plains in the Class 5 District 6 title game.

24. Helias Catholic (21-7)

Last ranking: 23

The Crusaders lost 43-41 to Jefferson City in the Class 5 District 5 title game.

25. Nixa (21-7)

Last ranking: 24

The Eagles lost in the Class 6 District 5 semifinal round 60-56 to Kickapoo.
