Final 2022-23 SBLive Missouri high school boys basketball Power 25 rankings: Vashon finishes at No. 1

The final rankings of the 2022-23 Missouri high school basketball season see no change among the top three as Vashon (Class 4), Staley (Class 6) and Cardinal Ritter (Class 5) all claimed state championships. Vashon captured its 14th state title, while Staley earned its first state championship banner.

Cardinal Ritter is still perfect in state championship games, going 10-0 in 10 state championship appearances. New Madrid County Central (Class 3), Salisbury (Class 2) and South Iron (Class 1) round out the state champions this season.

Here's a look at the SBLive Missouri Power 25:

1. Vashon (25-7)

Last ranking: 1

The 7-7 start to the season is a distant memory for the Wolverines as they claimed their fourth consecutive state championship over the weekend with a 64-37 drumming of Park Hills Central in the Class 4 state championship. Vashon captured its 14th state championship in program history with coach Tony Irons capturing six of them since taking over in 2015. Dierre Hill Jr. and Trey Williams Jr scored 12 points apiece for the Wolverines, who picked up 14 assists on 21 made baskets.

2. Staley (30-2)

Last ranking: 2

The Falcons captured their first state championship, knocking off Kickapoo in the Class 6 title game, 49-32. Staley used a suffocating defense to smother Kickapoo's offense, which shot just 28 percent from the field. Falcons' senior guard Kyan Evans led the way with 16 points and six rebounds, while forward Kayden Fish added 11 points and six rebounds.

3. Cardinal Ritter (28-4)

Last ranking: 3

The Lions captured their third state title in the last four years and the program's 10th with a 65-54 victory over Ladue in the Class 5 state championship game. Nashawn Davis led the way with 16 points, while Derrick Rivers scored 16 points and Clayton Jackson chipped in 10 points for an offense that shot 63 percent from the field. The Lions are a perfect 10-0 in state championship games.

4. Kickapoo (23-9)

Last ranking: 4

After knocking off Troy Buchanan in the Class 6 semifinal round, the Chiefs ran into the defensive-minded Staley in the title game. The Chiefs came up short of its second state title in three years, falling 49-32 in the championship game. Brayden Shorter and Trae Oetting scored 14 and 11 points, respectively. They were the only two Chiefs that were able to score in double-digits as Staley held them to the lowest output since scoring 29 points in a loss to Waynesville in 2018.

5. Ladue (26-6)

Last ranking: 6

After blitzing past Jefferson City in a Class 5 semifinal game, the Rams came up just short of the program's first state championship with a loss to Cardinal Ritter in the Class 5 state championship game. Jack Steinbach led the way with 16 points and dished out six assists in the state title loss. It's the first postseason trophy for the Rams since a third-place finish in 2019.

6. Park Hills Central (28-4)

Last ranking: 15

The Rebels played for their first state championship in program history but came up short in its bid for the title, losing to Vashon 64-37 in the Class 4 state championship game. The Class 4 runner-up finish joins the 1976 third-place finish in Class 3. Jobe Bryant led the way with 13 points and picked up five rebounds in the title game loss.

7. Troy Buchanan (26-6)

Last ranking: 5

After suffering a loss in a Class 6 semifinal game against Kickapoo, the Trojans rebounded in a big way with a win over Jackson in the Class 6 third-place game. In the 40-32 victory, Troy was led by Charlie Nett who picked up a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Moore picked up 11 points while dishing out two assists. It's the first postseason trophy since a second-place finish in 2011.

8. New Madrid County Central (24-7)

Last ranking: 8

The Eagles soared to the top of the Class 3 mountain, capturing the Class 3 state championship with a 56-46 win over Lutheran North. Jadis Jones scored a team-high 20 points in the victory. It was the first state championship since 2001.

9. Jefferson City (24-8)

Last ranking: 7

The Jays made their return to the semifinal round for the first time since 2017. Jefferson City dropped a Class 5 semifinal round game to Ladue before rebounding with a third-place victory over Pembroke Hill, 79-76. Sophomore guard Jordan Martin poured in a game-high 34 points and had six rebounds in the third-place game. Steven Samuels scored 24 points and pulled in eight rebounds.

10. Jackson (21-11)

Last ranking: 9

The Indians made their first appearance in the semifinal round since 1934, but the stay was short-lived. Jackson fell in the Class 6 semifinal game to Staley before falling to Troy Buchanan in the third-place game. The 21 wins in a season are the most since Jackson won 23 in 2015.

11. South Iron (29-4)

Last ranking: 11

The Panthers picked up their third consecutive Class 1 state championship, winning the 2023 title with a 56-47 win over St. Elizabeth. Colton Dinkins scored a team-high 19 points while Martez Burse collected a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.

12. Salisbury (29-3)

Last ranking: 12

The Panthers captured the Class 2 state championship, defeating Principia 55-46. Cooper Francis scored 21 points while Hayden Wooldridge picked up 13 points to go along with six rebounds. It's the first state title since winning the 2013 Class 2 state championship.

13. Pembroke Hill (23-7)

Last ranking: 10

Pembroke Hill made a return trip to the state semifinal round, but it was a short-lived appearance. The Raiders fell to eventual champions Cardinal Ritter in the semifinal round before dropping a 79-76 loss to Jefferson City in the third-place game. Darin Conley picked up a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Mavrick Hawkins poured in 19 points off the bench.

14. St. Joseph Lafayette (23-8)

Last ranking: NR

The Fighting Irish made their return to the semifinal round since 2016. Lafayette St. Joseph's fell to Park Hills Central in a Class 4 semifinal round before rebounding with a 78-57 victory over Father Tolton in the Class 4 third-place game. Georga Galloway led the way with a game-high 26 points and pulled down three rebounds to go with two assists. It's the program's first third-place finish after three runner-up finishes and a fourth-place finish in 2011 to go with a Class 3 state championship in 1976.

15. Father Tolton (21-11)

Last ranking: NR

Got its rematch with Vashon in the Class 4 semifinal round, but fell short of the title game with a 49-45 loss to Vashon before a 78-57 loss to St. Joseph Lafayette in the third-place game. Izaak Porter and Blake Pingeton scored 12 points apiece while Zay Wilson chipped in 11 points in the loss.

16. Lutheran North (21-11)

Last ranking: 13

The Crusaders lost in the Class 3 state championship game 56-46 to New Madrid County Central.

17. Lee's Summit West (26-5)

Last ranking: 14

The Titans lost in the Class 6 quarterfinal round 49-43 to Kickapoo.

18. Chaminade (22-9)

Last ranking: 16

The Red Devils lost in the Class 6 quarterfinal round 74-62 to Troy Buchanan.

19. Thayer (26-5)

Last ranking: 17

The Bobcats lost in the Class 3 semifinal round to Lutheran North 61-60 before capturing the Class 3 third-place trophy with a 67-64 win over Lafayette County.

20. Principia (25-7)

Last ranking: 18

THe Panthers lost in the Class 2 state championship game 55-46 to Salisbury.

21. Oak Park (26-2)

Last ranking: 19

The Northmen lost 56-49 in the Class 6 District 8 title game against Staley.

22. Nixa (28-1)

Last ranking: 20

The Eagles lost 68-60 in the Class 6 District 5 title game against Kickapoo.

23. Cape Girardeau Central (26-3)

Last ranking: 21

The Tigers lost 50-48 in the Class 5 District 1 title game against Sikeston.

24. Sikeston (22-8)

Last ranking: 22

The Bulldogs lost to Cardinal Ritter in the Class 5 quarterfinal round 62-45.

25. MICDS (23-7)

Last ranking: 23

The Rams lost in the Class 4 quarterfinal round, 56-52, to Park Hills Central.
