Here are the candidates for the WaFd BankArizona High School Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 3-9 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

William Allen, Senior, Cortez - In a close game against Combs on Thursday, Allen had 32 points while shooting 60-percent from the field to lead the game in scoring. He also had five assists along with three rebounds and three steals in the 79-77 road loss. 

Wes Ball, Senior, Marana - Helping Marana pick up a 70-66 win over Flowing Wells on Tuesday, Ball was balling out, dropping 30 points on the night to set a new personal best. With 14 rebounds, he also had a double-double, along with three blocks and a pair of steals and assists. 

Dillan Baker, Senior, Salpointe Catholic - Leading the Lancers in scoring on Tuesday with 18 points, Baker also had seven rebounds, six assists and three deflections to help pick up a 62-41 win over the Sahuaro Cougars. 

Zayonte Bolton, Junior, Dobson - Bolton was hard at work on Tuesday to help Dobson pick up a 71-48 road win over Rincon/University. He had a double-double, with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 73-percent from the field, along with three assists and two steals. 

Mark Brown, Junior, Mountain Pointe - Teaming up with Tru Washington on Tuesday, the duo helped power Mountain Pointe to an 80-57 win over Pinnacle. With 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, four deflections and four steals, Brown dominated all across the court. 

Andrew Camacho, Junior, Peoria - On Tuesday, Camacho dropped 38 points to not only lead the game in scoring, but also help the Panthers pick up a 90-67 win over Prescott. Shooting 85-percent from the field, Camacho also had nine assists, three rebounds and two steals in the win. The following day in the 106-19 win over Apache Junction, Camacho had 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, two deflections and a steal. 

Alfredo Carbajal, Senior, Kofa - Just shy of his career-best, Carbajal posted 22 points and seven rebounds on Wednesday in Kofa’s 64-54 loss to the La Joya Community Lobos. 

Marcus Coleman, Senior, Pueblo - Back on the list again this week is Coleman, as he continues his strong senior season. On Tuesday, he dropped 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two deflections to help Pueblo blow by Desert View 71-37.

Gavin Dabney, Freshman, Higley - In just the fourth game of his high school career, Dabney exploded on Tuesday in Higley’s 64-34 win over Paradise Valley. Posting 22 points while shooting 64-percent from the field, he led the game in scoring while also snagging three rebounds, three steals and an assist. 

Isaac Dongo, Senior, La Joya - Tying his career-high of 20 points on Wednesday, Dongo helped La Joya pick up a 64-54 win over Kofa while shooting 82-percent from the field. He also had five rebounds, four assists, two deflections and two steals in the win. 

Gabe Escobedo, Senior, Miami -Escobedo led the game against St. Augustine Catholic in scoring with 32 points to help pick up a 69-43 victory. He also had eight rebounds, eight steals, three assists and two deflections on the night. 

Deavon Felix, Senior, Greenway - Despite a close 57-52 loss to Saguaro on Tuesday, Felix had one of his better overall performances of the season so far, absolutely crashing the boards. Posting a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds, he also had four assists and a steal. 

Carter Gittens, Junior, Sunrise Mountain - Helping lift the Mustangs to a 62-55 victory over the Cactus Shadows Falcons on Tuesday, Gittens led the team in scoring with 25 points while shooting 63-percent from the field. He also had four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a deflection in the win. In Thursday’s 73-72 win over Desert Mountain, Gittens helped the Mustangs edge the Wolves by dropping 30 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, along with an assist, a steal and a block. He capped his week by leading the game against Willow Canyon in scoring with 35 points, accompanied by 10 rebounds for another double-double. He also had four assists, three steals, a block and a deflection in the 80-63 victory. 

Weston Haebig, Junior, Sabino - Tuesday was a big night for Haebig, whose explosive 94-percent shooting from the field powered him to a career-high 38 points in the 88-55 victory over Safford. He also had four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Bradey Henige, Sophomore, Cactus - In a challenging road game against Bradshaw Mountain, Henige led the game in scoring with 22 points to help Cactus power to a 56-51 win. He also had 12 rebounds, a block and a steal. 

Tyson Helms, Junior, Canyon del Oro - Helping the Dorados slide past the Pueblo Warriors 85-79 on Thursday, Helms had an explosive game with a career-high 41 points in the win. Making it a double-double, he also had 10 assists along with three rebounds. 

Isaiah Hill, Sophomore, Pueblo - Exploding to a career-high 42 points, along with seven rebounds, four deflections, three assists and a steal, Hill had an outstanding night despite the Warriors falling to the Canyon del Oro Dorados 85-79.

Cooper Jones, Senior, Buena - Dropping a season-high 28 points in Thursday’s 95-57 win over Nogales, Jones also had five steals, five assists, four rebounds and a deflection for an all-around strong performance for the Colts. 

Zander Kamai, Junior, Paradise Honors - Leading Wednesday’s game in scoring with 20 points, Kamai shot 73-percent from the field to help the Panthers defeat the Desert Edge Scorpions 73-33. He also had six rebounds, an assist, a steal, a deflection and a block.

Luke Light, Senior, Paradise Honors - In Tuesday’s 112-25 blowout of the Yuma Criminals, Light was one of three players in double-digits, shooting 100-percent from the field. Along with his 14 points, he also had seven rebounds, a deflection and an assist to help the team snag the victory.

Ty McDowell, Junior, Campo Verde - Shooting a perfect 100-percent from the field, McDowell posted a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds to help Campo Verde defeat Canyon View 67-60. He also had a pair of steals and assists in the win. 

Ahamed Mohamed, Senior, Apollo - Sixty-one points. Yep, Mohamed posted a whopping 61 points on 72-percent shooting in Friday’s 98-41 victory over Williams Field. He also had 10 rebounds, securing a double-double, along with four assists, two steals and a deflection in the win. 

Tony Mottola, Senior, Marcos de Niza - With a career-best performance on Tuesday against Barry Goldwater, Mottola helped Marcos de Niza pick up an 88-35 win with 24 points, seven assists, three rebounds, two deflections and a steal. 

Emilio Orantez, Senior, Sunnyside - While he might not have led the game in scoring, Orantez’s presence on the court in Thursday’s 97-32 victory over Desert View cannot be overlooked. Posting 19 points while shooting 100-percent from the field, he nearly had a triple-double with nine assists and nine steals. He also had five deflections, a block and a rebound.

Jason Parent, Senior, Prescott - Leading the game against Lee Williams on Thursday in scoring, Parent had 23 points in the 65-25 win. With 11 rebounds, he notched a double-double in the game, along with six deflections, three assists, a steal and a block. He followed it up on Friday in the 92-61 win over Flagstaff with another explosive game, this time posting 34 points and nine rebounds. He also had seven assists, four deflections and three steals in the win. 

Chino Salas-Zorrilla, Senior, Camp Verde - Returning to the list again this week is Salas-Zorrilla, who opened the week Tuesday by posting 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals to help pick up an 85-57 win over Phoenix Country Day School. 

Jake Smith, Senior, Buena - In a battle between Buena and Sunnyside on Tuesday, Smith had a strong performance across the board to help the Colts walk away with a 76-66 win. With 21 points on the night, he set a new personal-best while also picking up a double-double with 14 rebounds. Smith also had five assists, five deflections and two steals in the win. 

Edmond Touye, Senior, Poston Butte - In Monday’s 78-61 victory over Youngker, Touye had an explosive game to help the Broncos pick up the win. Posting a double-double, he had 27 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a deflection in the victory. 

Triston Walters, Junior, Higley - It’s pretty rare to see someone in double digits for steals, but Walters was able to snag the ball away 10 times on Tuesday in the 64-34 win over Paradise Valley. Walters also had 16 points on the night, in addition to three assists and two steals. 

Calvin Windley, Junior, Peoria - Leading Wednesday’s game in scoring, Windley posted a career-high 28 points in the 106-19 victory over Apache Junction en route to a triple-double. In addition to shooting 83-percent from the field for his 28 points, he also had 18 rebounds, 12 steals and four assists for an absolutely monstrous night.
