Little Rock Southwest to host Class 6A state basketball, Benton keeping Weekend of Champions spring sports state finals events
The Arkansas Activities Association announced the sites for spring sports state and regional tournaments Thursday.
A couple of newer basketball arenas in central Arkansas were chosen after placing bids. Little Rock Southwest High School has only been open for a year and a half but will host the 6A state tournament March 1-5. Sheridan High School and its new arena will host Class 5A.
Magnolia High School, and its undefeated boys team, will host Class 4A, Valley Springs High School will be the host school for 3A using the North Arkansas College gym, Junction City High School will host Class 2A, and 1A will be hosted by Wonderview High School with games played at the Devil Dog Arena on the campus of Morrilton High School.
The other big news that came out earlier in the week when bids were revealed is Benton High School will once again host the Weekend of Champions in May with all of the baseball, softball and soccer finals being held at its complex. The events had been held on the campus of the University of Arkansas for many years but switched last year after a scheduling conflict. After a successful showing last spring, Benton was the only bidder.
