Oregon Ducks 2023 commit Sofia Bell has left St. Mary's Academy, is enrolled at Jesuit
Oregon Ducks girls basketball commit Sofia Bell has left St. Mary’s Academy mid-season and is now enrolled at Jesuit High School, according to numerous sources.
Bell, a 6-foot-1 wing, is the No. 28 girls basketball prospect in the nation in the 2023 class, according to ESPN.
Bell's name was removed from St. Mary's Academy's official OSAA roster this week. SMA, which is located in downtown Portland, has lost 8 of its past 10 games since opening the season 4-2.
Per OSAA rules, Bell would not be allowed to play basketball for a new school until next season.
St. Mary's Academy coach Sheena Moore, who is in her first season at the helm, confirmed via email that Bell is no longer with the program.
Jesuit coach Jason Lowery — whose Crusaders have a 17-2 record, are No. 2 in the OSAA Class 6A power rankings and have only two seniors on their roster — directed all inquiries about Bell’s status and rumored arrival at Jesuit to school Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Erika Tuenge, who wrote in an email: “For privacy and confidentiality purposes, our school policy is not to release this type of information.”
Bell chose the Ducks in November over Oregon State, Washington, USC, Stanford, Notre Dame, Gonzaga and several other offers. She is the daughter of former Oregon men’s basketball player Greg Bell.
