Vote for best high school mascot in America, Round 1: Fort Vancouver Trappers vs. Polo Marcos

The bracket is set for SBLive Sports' 2024 NCAA Tournament-style contest to determine the best high school mascot in America, and Round 1 is underway.

Vote below for the No. 5-seeded Fort Vancouver Trappers (Washington) or the No. 12-seeded Polo Marcos (Illinois) to advance to the second round, where the winner will face either the Clarkston Bantams (Washington) or Rhinelander Hodags (Wisconsin).

The Trappers earned a 5 seed by compiling 565 votes in last fall's Washington contest, while the Marcos won Illinois with eight votes to earn a 12 seed.

Voting for this matchup will conclude Wednesday, March 20, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.

5. Fort Vancouver Trappers (Washington)

Originally called Vancouver High School when it opened in the late 1800s, the high school is named after Fort Vancouver, an early trading outpost near the Columbia River across the Oregon border. The high school chose the Trappers as its mascot in honor of the fur trade in the area in the early 19th century.

12. Polo Marcos (Illinois)

Undoubtedly one of the historically punniest mascot names in the country, right alongside Minnesota’s Roosevelt Teddies and Washington’s Lincoln Abes.
