Vote: Who should be SBLive’s North Carolina High School Boys Basketball Player of the Week (1/22/2024)?

We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s North Carolina Boys Basketball Player of the Week from Jan. 15-20 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Paul McNeil, Richmond

The 6-foot-6 star would be at the top of any list based on what he did in the Raiders’ 118-52 win over Lee County. McNeil, a North Carolina State commit, scored a state-record 71 points, breaking a mark that had stood for 74 years. McNeil, the state’s leading scorer, achieved his remarkable feat even as the second half was played with a running clock. McNeil was 28-of-49 from the field while also getting 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.

Zyon Chambers, Newton-Conover

Chambers hit a 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds left to lift the Red Devils to a 56-55 win over Bandys. The 6-foot-6 senior finished the game, N-C’s fifth win in a row, with 15 points.

L.J. Smith IV, Lincolnton

Smith poured in 31 points as the Wolves beat East Burke 64-50. The 6-foot-4 freshman is one of the state’s top scorers with 32.1 points per game.

Logan Johnson, United Faith Christian Academy

The 6-foot-3 sophomore point guard had 17 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds against North Hills in United Faith’s 99-47 win.

Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln

Fannon scored 36 points, the bulk on a school-record 10 3-pointers as East Lincoln downed North Iredell 83-64.

Maurio Hanson, Chambers

The 6-foot-7 senior power forward produced a triple double of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 92-75 win over Mallard Creek. Hanson has 11 offers from Division I schools.

Timothy Brower, Eastern Randolph

Brower scored 34 points in the Wildcats’ 81-77 win over Trinity. The 6-foot-2 junior guard averages 21.2 points per game.

Kaedon Parker, Red Springs

The senior guard scored 30 points in a 58-31 win over Clinton. Porter got half of his points on five 3-pointers.

Keveon Rodgers, Hertford County

Rodgers scored 21 points as the Bears rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to beat Camden County 65-50.

M.J. Williams, Farmville Central

Williams scored 27 points in the Jaguars’ 85-63 win over rival Greene Central. That was nearly double his average of 14.2 points.
