Over the past few weeks, we've been taking a look at some of the top track and field athletes in Ohio.

We started with the top sprinters in the girls division and then the top boys sprinters, followed by girls distance runners and boys distance runners.

Next up were the boys hurdlers and girls hurdlers, and now it's the boys throwers' turn.

There are hundreds of standout throwers in Ohio, and these lists are not intended to be comprehensive! Tag us on Twitter or Instagram at @SBLiveOH and let us know about other athletes worthy of fans’ attention.

Note: We'll also be posting lists of the state's top jumpers in the coming weeks. Many athletes excel in multiple events, but we won't do write-ups on the same athlete on multiple lists.

Alan Austin, Piketon, junior

Austin's school-record discus throw of 180'4 is second in the state this season and nearly 20 feet better than the previous Piketon record.

Brett Brooks, Wilmington, senior

A three-sport star (football, wrestling), Brooks is looking to build on his eighth-place finish in discus last year at the D1 state championships. He threw a PR of 163'9.

Jokell Brown, Springfield, senior

Brown anchored one of the best defensive lines in the state on the football field this past fall, and he's among the top returners in the shot put from last season. He's fourth in Ohio among returners with a PR of 56'4.

Ethan Green, Fremont Ross, senior

The Division I state wrestling champ at 285 pounds and Cincinnati commit for football is also one of the best returning throwers in the state. His discus throw of 165'11 last year is fifth among returners.

Ryan Henry, McDonald, senior

Henry has the second-farthest shot put in the state from last year among returners (after Aamil Wagner) at 60'2 and third in discus at 176'0.

Riley Laporte, Garrettsville Garfield, senior

Laporte is off to a good start this season after an impressive showing last season at the D2 state championships. He set a PR of 56'10.75 in the shot put at the Mansfield Mehock Relays.

Lawson Maag, Columbus Grove, junior

A three-sport athlete, Maag threw a PR in the discus of 166'5 as a sophomore at the D3 state championships.

JT Patrick, Margaretta, junior

Patrick has thrown PRs in the shot put and discus this season to crack the top 10 in the state in both events.

Charles Pawlosky, Lakeview, senior

The Kent State commit broke the school record in the shot put this month with a throw of 57'0, also breaking his PR of 55'7 set at last year's state championships.

Brayden Richards, Perry, sophomore

The decathlete has the top javelin throw in the state this season at 162'7.5. He had the top throw as a freshman as well, at 164'8.5.

Colt Sechrest, Bellaire, senior

The Youngstown State football commit has the farthest discus throw in the state this season at 182'5, just short of his top throw as a junior. His PR of 182'7 was second in the state last year and first among 2022 returners.

Trent Tharp, Lancaster, junior

Tharp has the top hammer throw on the season at 154'5, just ahead of teammate Anthony Smith at 151'4.

Tyler Thompson, Rittman, junior

Thompson was top 10 in the state last season in the shot put as a sophomore, and he's come out even stronger as a junior. He threw a PR of 58'9.5 on April 16 at the Cowen Redbird Invitational.

Taran Tyo, Versailles, senior

The Ball State football commit won a state championship with the Versailles football team, was a state wrestling finalist and now turns to track and field. He has the second-farthest discus throw in the state among returners with a 177'8.

Hayden Valenti, Vermilion, junior

Valenti broke the school record in the discus in March with a 158'7.5, then outdid himself in April with a 163'6. He also set a PR in the shot put this season of 51'2.5.
