Ohio high school boys basketball: Meet the state’s best wings for the 2023-24 season

Burris is an Ohio University signee who stands 6-foot-5 and can play at guard or on the wing. The OCC-Capital Division Player of the Year and a second-team all-state honoree in Division I a year ago, Burris is coming off a season in which he averaged 18.1 points and 8.8 rebounds while helping the Pacers reach a district final.

Buchanan is averaging 17 points for the Senators, who were Division II district runners-up a year ago. Buchanan is 6-foot-5 and shoots better than 50 percent from 3-point range.

With a list of offers that includes Akron and Youngstown State, the 6-foot-5 Fisher is one of central Ohio’s top prospects. He produced the game-winning basket in a 55-53 win over two-time defending Division IV state champion Richmond Heights on Dec. 2.

The 6-foot-5 Fogle averaged 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists last season while leading the Minutemen to a Division II district title, earning him second-team all-district and special mention all-state honors. He holds offers from a list of schools that includes Arizona State, IUPUI and Jackson State.

The 6-foot-6 Johnson averages 14.5 points and 3.5 rebounds for Withrow after helping the Tigers go 16-6 a season ago.

Johnson averages 13.5 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, who reached a Division I regional semifinal last season. Standing at 6-foot-7, Johnson is a Thomas More commit.

The younger brother of NBA player Miles McBride, A.J. McBride is 6-foot-5 and has committed to Niagara. Last season, he averaged 10.3 points and five rebounds while helping the Crusaders finish 18-8 and reach a Division I district final.

After helping the Comets win 16 games a year ago, the 6-foot-4 Menker got off to a hot start this winter by scoring 33 points in his team’s opening 80-58 win over Taft on Dec. 1.

The 6-foot-4 Mills was second team all-state in Division II and first team all-Southwest District after averaging 19.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals. He helped the Bulldogs finish 19-5.

Moy, who stands 6-foot-4, averaged 25.2 points and earned first-team all-state honors in Division IV last season as the Braves were district runners-up.

Morgan, who is 6-foot-5, averaged 16.3 points and was special mention all-state in Division I a season ago.

The 6-foot-7 Njie was averaging 16 points through three games for the Elks, who reached a Division I state semifinal last season.

After averaging 17 points and earning honorable mention all-state recognition last winter, the 6-foot-4 Parish averaged 24 points through the Wildcats’ first three games.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Schmelzer led the Falcons to a Division II district title last season when he averaged 15 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He was the MSL-Buckeye Player of the Year and third-team all-state.

This 6-foot-5 Sommer was averaging 21.3 points and eight rebounds through three games for the Jeeps.

The 6-foot-4 Shrout has nearly a dozen scholarship offers. A season ago, Shrout averaged 23.3 points while earning first-team all-state honors in Division III as the Arrows won their first district title in 34 years. 

The 6-foot-4 Steele, who has committed to Mars Hill, averaged 15.5 points, 10 rebounds and nearly five assists while helping Richmond Heights win its second consecutive Division IV state title last winter.

Stokes, who stands 6-foot-5, has been offered by Bethune-Cookman and produced 20-plus points and 10 rebounds in two of the Rockets’ first three games.

The 6-foot-6 Thompson averaged 11.5 points and made 47 3-pointers last season. He is among the top prospects in the 2026 class.

Waleskowski is 6-foot-4 and averaged 15.5 points and 4.3 rebounds while making 46 3-pointers a year ago while earning second-team all-district and special mention all-state honors in Division I.
