Oklahoma's top high school girls basketball players: Meet the state's best point guards

Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking a position-by-position look at some of the top players in Oklahoma high school girls basketball.

Our first list focuses on point guards. Eventually, we'll dive into shooting guards, wings and finish it up with posts.

There are hundreds of standout girls basketball players in Oklahoma, and these lists are not intended to be comprehensive. Use the comments section to discuss the other point guards worthy of fans' attention in 2021-22.

In no particular order:

Azya Poole, 5-3, Sr., Midwest City Carl Albert

A four-year starter at point guard, Poole is averaging 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and three deflections per game for the Lady Titans. She has already reached 1,000 points and 300 steals for her career. Poole has signed with Seminole State College. "Azya was named first team in all three tournaments we played this year: Duncan, Bartlesville and Carl Albert," Lady Titan coach Kyle Richey said. "She was Defensive Player of the Year in our conference last year."

Morgan Borgstadt, 6-0, Jr., Verdigris

Borgstadt is one of the more versatile players on the list. She is capable of playing all five positions out on the court, but predominantly plays point guard for the Lady Cardinals, one of the top contenders in Class 4A. She averages 20 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists per game. "She is best attacking the basket and using her strength to finish at the rim," Verdigris coach Mike Buntin said. "However, she dramatically improved as a shooter; she is shooting 37 percent from 3 this year, and she also guards the other team's best player every night."

Parker Stevenson, 5-6, Jr., Bethel

Stevenson is averaging 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 4.3 assists per game. She has also blocked 15 shots. Stevenson  went over the 1,000-point mark for her career last month. "Parker has led us in scoring the last two years," Bethel coach Tara Satterfield said. "She can shoot it from anywhere on the floor. She does a great job creating for her teammates."

Toni Papahronis, 6-0, Sr., Edmond North

The daughter of Edmond North coach Pete Papahronis, Toni Papahronis is averaging 8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for a Lady Huskies team that won their first 21 games to start the season and is ranked No. 1 in 6A entering the postseason. She is a four-year starting point guard on a team that has averaged more than 20 wins per season. Papahronis plans to continue her basketball career after signing with the U.S. Naval Academy. "She makes our team go," Pete Papahronis said. "Great point guard in transition, and makes everyone on the floor a better player."

Jadyn Rother, 5-8, So., Okarche

Rother is averaging 9.3 points per game, along with three steals, five rebounds and two assists for a Lady Warriors team which entered postseason play as the No. 2 ranked team in Class A, having lost just two games all season.

Gentry Baldwin, 5-6, Jr., Bixby

Baldwin averages 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game for a surging Lady Spartan team that won the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa in late December and is one of the top contenders to win the 6A state championship in March. She is also shooting 54 percent from 2-point range and 38 percent from 3-point range. "Gentry is the spark plug of the team; with her high basketball IQ, she is a coach on the court," Bixby coach Tina Thomas said. "She plays with the tenacity of a 7-footer, she has the ability to push the ball down the court at will. She has been the highest percentage and most efficient shooter on our team the last two seasons."

Peyton Walker, 5-6, So., Kingfisher

Walker is averaging 7.8 points, 4.5 assists, 3.4 steals and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Lady Yellowjackets, who are gearing up for a run at the Class 4A title. "Peyton Walker is a true floor general who does whatever her team needs in order to win games," Kingfisher coach Taylor Cooper said. "She fills the stat sheet and takes on the responsibility of guarding the other team's best player on most nights."

Jaylee Lopez, 5-4, Sr., Idabel

Lopez is averaging 11.5 points, six rebounds and six assists per game for a Lady Warriors team that finished the regular season by winning 18 consecutive ballgames. In a recent win against 2A No. 1 ranked Howe, she had 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals. "She attracts 2-3 defenders most possessions," Idabel coach Kayla Denton said. "She can shoot the 3, get to the paint, and pull up for the jump shot."

Randi Harding, 5-6, Sr., Mustang

Harding averages 15.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals for the Lady Broncos. She has also converted 40 percent of her 3-point attempts and is also 83 percent from the foul line. Harding scored her 1,000th career point in a Feb. 15 game against Moore. Recently, Harding committed to play at Butler Community College in Kansas.

Addy Hoffman, 5-9, Jr., Weatherford

Hoffman is averaging 19 points and seven rebounds per game for the Lady Eagles, one of the top teams in 4A. She has also converted 45 percent of her 3-point attempts. "Addy is one of the best players in the state of Oklahoma; she can score at all 3 levels," Weatherford coach Grant Givens said. "She has developed into a very consistent 3-point shooter and has a very good mid-range jump shot. Her ability to post up smaller guards makes her a match-up problem for most teams."

Baylor Franz, 5-6, Jr., Edmond Memorial

Franz is averaging 20.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, along with 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals. "My point guard is without a doubt one of the best in the state," Edmond Memorial coach Rachel Crabaugh said. "Baylor sees the floor very well and makes crisp passes to her teammates. She is a good ball handler and is a strong voice for her team. She is proactive and anticipates game situations. However, my favorite thing about Baylor is that she will lay it all on the line on both ends of the floor. She gets deflections, loose balls and crashes the boards extremely hard."

Kennedy Hight, 5-8, So., Perry

Hight is one of several players averaging double figures for the Lady Maroons, who entered postseason play ranked No. 2 in Class 3A. She is averaging 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals per contest. "Kennedy is really playing well and having a good sophomore season," Perry coach Paul Duncan said. "She's the straw that stirs the drink."

Sania Richardson, 5-4, Fr., Ada

Though a freshman, Richardson is already making her name known across Oklahoma and even beyond. She is averaging 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 4.1 assists for a Lady Cougars squad that entered the 4A postseason having won 14 of their last 15 ballgames. "We have an exceptional point guard," Ada coach Christie Jennings said. "She is the best player I've ever coached. She is so unselfish and a great teammate on top of being such a special player."

Zya Vann, 5-9, So., Southmoore

Vann is averaging 21.2 points per game this season along with 7.3 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 2.8 assists. She has scored at least 435 points on the season. "Zya is an outstanding point guard who can score and create opportunities for her teammates," Southmoore coach Kayla Fourkiller said.

Journey Armstead, 5-9, Sr., Sand Springs

Armstead is the Lady Sandites' leading scorer, averaging 16.1 points per game. She also averages 4.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.4 deflections. A left-hander, Armstead is also zeroing in on her 1,500th career point. "She is one of the best playmakers in Oklahoma," Sand Springs coach Charles Berry said. "She has made the All-Tournament team every time and has been All-Conference all four years."

Janiyah Williams, 5-8, Fr., Stillwater

Williams has made an instant impact for the Lady Pioneers, already averaging 18.9 points per game. She is also averaging 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals. "Janiyah has the ability to score at all three levels," Stillwater coach Kendra Kilpatrick said. "She has a beautiful mid-range game and is nearly unstoppable in transition."

Leziah Lofton, 6-0, Fr., Bethany

Lofton is averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals a game for a Lady Bronchos squad that is ranked in the top 10 in Class 4A. "She is being recruited by every major Division I college from the Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona and Arkansas area," Bethany coach Eric Sailer said. "Plus many more around the nation."

Seldon Stover, 5-8, So., Owasso

Stover has been averaging 8.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for the Lady Rams. She has also converted 41 percent of her field goal attempts and is 71 percent from the free-throw line.

Boston Berry, 5-7, Jr.., Jones

Berry is a multi-year starter at point guard and was part of the Lady Longhorns' run to the 3A state title last season. This season, she is averaging 11.1 points, four rebounds, 5.3 assists and three steals. Berry is also 39 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free-throw line. "Boston brings experience as a three-year starter for our program," Jones coach Jenni Holbrook said. "She's as good as any to be able to get the ball up the floor; her court vision and arm strength and ability to find the open man in transition really keeps other teams on the run. She is shooting the ball quite well from the outside, and has the ability to get to the paint off the dribble and break down defenses."

Smalls Goudeau, 5-9, Sr., Tahlequah

Goudeau is a returning player for a Lady Tiger team that reached the 5A title game last season and is attempting to do the same this season in 6A. She is averaging 12.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists and four steals per game while shooting more than 48 percent from the field. In her first season running the point, Goudeau has a ratio of 103 assists to 47 turnovers. "One of the best two-way players in the state in my opinion, a physical guard who can impact a game in a variety of ways," Tahlequah coach David Qualls said.

Shiloh Fletcher, 5-5, Sr., Howe

Fletcher has been a part of two Class 2A state championship squads for the Lady Lions and she would like to make it three before going on to the next level, having signed with Oklahoma Christian University. In helping Howe win it all her junior season, Fletcher averaged 11.2 points and 3.6 assists per game. At the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa this past December, Fletcher scored 18 points and made four 3's against defending 6A champion Norman and also made a last-second shot to beat Seiling.

McKenzie Mathurin, 5-10, Fr., Broken Arrow

Mathurin is averaging 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game for the Lady Tigers. In just her second game, she had 21 points in a December win against Edmond Memorial. Mathurin also scored in double figures for 12 straight games, with a high of 19 against Owasso on Feb. 1.

Rylan Lain, 5-5, Jr., Durant

Lain has been averaging 8.5 points a game, along with three assists and two steals. "She's a scrappy point guard that gets it done on both ends of the floor," Durant coach Will Robinson said.

Racheal Watie, 5-6, Sr., Roland

Watie is the lone returning starter from a Lady Ranger squad that went undefeated in the regular season and reached the Class 3A championship game. This season, she is averaging 20.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Watie has also made 71.8 percent of her free-throw attempts. "She has consistently been the focus of each team's defense all year long and has still managed to put up incredible numbers," Roland coach Greg Pratt said.

Jordan Harrison, 5-6, Sr., Classen SAS

Harrison is averaging 18.1 points, 4.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game for a Lady Comet squad that is a serious contender for the Class 4A title. In a game on Jan. 14 with Northwest Classen, Harrison - who will play at Stephen F. Austin State University - set a single game 5-on-5 state record with 74 points. She also had 12 points on Feb. 17, including the eventual game-winning free throws in the final seconds, when Classen SAS handed 6A power Edmond North its first loss.

Madison Carter, 5-8, So., Wright City

Through her team's first 25 games, Carter is averaging 17 points per game. She has also averaged 4.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 4.9 steals.

Halyn Browning, 5-9, Fr., Luther

For a highly ranked 3A team, Browning has given the Lady Lions an additional jolt of energy. In her debut season, she has averaged 15.4 points along with 3.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.1 steals. "She's been a really good addition this year to our club," Luther coach Johnny Vick said. "She's a Division I caliber talent looked at by a couple of schools already."

Marcayla Johnson, 6-0, Fr., Tulsa Booker T. Washington

Johnson has made an immediate impact for the Lady Hornets and has already received offers from several Division I schools. In a Feb. 4 win against Jenks, she scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. She also had 21 points, 12 boards and two assists in a late January win against Bartlesville, including hitting the game-winning basket. Johnson made another game-winning shot in the Lady Hornets' regular-season finale Feb. 18 against Owasso. "She has great court vision," BTW coach Rabu Leyva said. "She is second on our team in scoring and first in rebounds. She literally plays all over the floor and has two game winning shots this season. She is the next big thing coming out of our area."

Aaliyah Henderson, 5-8, Jr., Norman

Henderson averaged nearly 11 points her junior season, in which the Lady Tigers finished undefeated and with a 6A state championship. Despite injuries to several of her teammates, Henderson has continued to excel, averaging nearly 14 points and five rebounds and helping spearhead the team's defensive pressure. With many of her teammates back healthy, don't count the Tigers out of a chance at a repeat 6A title.

Kenley Lemons, 5-6, So., Comanche

Lemons has averaged 7.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals thus far for Comanche, which finished the regular season ranked No. 8 in Class 3A. "Kenley is a dynamic scoring point guard who can get to the rim or knock down the 3," Comanche coach Megan Robbins said. "Her length allows her to bother other guards on defense, averaging almost two deflections a game."

Stevie Stinchcomb, 5-6, Sr., McAlester

Stinchcomb is one of the primary go-to players for a Lady Buffaloes squad that is a prime contender for the 5A championship. She is averaging 17.2 points. 3.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.5 steals while shooting 50.6 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3-point range and 76.5 percent from the line. "Stevie is our senior leader at point guard," McAlester coach Jarrod Owen said. "She brings a tough, scrappy defensive style to our team that sets the tone for every game. She has led our team in scoring the last three years."

Jayda Holiman, 5-5, Jr., McAlester

The Lady Buffaloes have the luxury of two dynamic point guards. Along with Stinchcomb, Holiman has been a key player in the team's success. She is averaging 13.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.9 steals while converting 37 percent of her field-goal attempts and 74 percent of her free throws. "Jayda moved to McAlester her junior year and her effect on the team has been felt immediately," McAlester coach Jarrod Owen said. "She not only can score, but also leads the team in rebounding and steals. She has provided another dynamic threat for the Lady Buffs."

Elise Hill, 5-7, So., Holland Hall

Hill leads the Dutch in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game. She also has made 40.7 percent of her field goals, 35 percent of her 3-point attempts and 76 percent of her free throws. Hill also has 62 total steals. "A dynamic player that is a scoring point guard," Holland Hall coach Crystal Lawson said.

Sierra Winkler, 5-8, Sr., Keys

Winkler is averaging 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. "Sierra is one of the top overall players on our team," Keys coach Rick Kirkhart said. "She is the best defensive player and the hardest worker I've been around in a long time."

Samantha Shanks, 5-8, Sr., Webbers Falls

A four-year starter, Shanks was part of two state tournament teams with the Lady Warriors going into her senior season. She has signed to play with Connors State College in Warner. Shanks helped the Lady Warriors win their first 18 ballgames and reach the area round of the Class A playoffs. In a district title win against Porter, Shanks had 21 points, including making four free throws in the final 25 seconds. "She's one of these kids that can go score; obviously, she has the extraordinary ability to pass the ball over to people," Webbers Falls coach Jerry Ward said. "She's been that kind of player basically her whole career."
