Oklahoma Class B basketball state championship roundup: Pittsburg girls finish undefeated season with program's first title; Glencoe boys hold off Roff in epic finish

An historic day at State Fair Arena

By Buck Ringgold

Before Thursday, the Pittsburg girls basketball team had never won a state tournament game.

Now, the Lady Panthers can be called state champions.

Pittsburg completed a perfect 30-0 season and secured the first gold ball in program history after downing two-time defending champion Lomega, 53-51, in Saturday's Class B title game at State Fair Arena.

The Lady Panthers rallied from a 30-25 halftime lead as well as a seven-point third quarter deficit to come back for the win.

Pittsburg took a 52-47 lead with more than two minutes to go. With the Lady Panthers up by one in the final seconds, Trinity Wiseman, the lone senior on the Lady Panthers' roster, added a foul shot.

Then, a shot attempt by Lomega skipped off the back of the rim as time expired.

The Lady Panthers tied the score at 42-all entering the fourth quarter when Catyn Graham hit a long 3-pointer to end the third. Graham also had three first-half 3's to finish with 15 points.

Tori Kilburn, a freshman, had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds despite dealing with foul trouble in the second half. Another freshman, Katie Allen, scored 11 points.

Wiseman added nine points to go along with five assists and three steals.

Ranked No. 3 to start the playoffs, Pittsburg won its first-ever state tournament game Thursday by beating No. 4 Lookeba-Sickles in the quarterfinals. On Friday, the Lady Panthers defeated No. 2 Hammon in the semifinals before taking down top-ranked Lomega to win the title Saturday.

Lomega finished its season 24-6.

Glencoe 47, Roff 46 (BOYS)

Trailing by a point with less than 10 seconds left, Glencoe's Jaken Weedn went to the free-throw line.

In a one-and-one situation, he was able to convert both free throws to put the Panthers ahead by a point. Glencoe then was able to hold on for the win in Saturday's Class B title game.

The Panthers won their fifth gold ball and their first title since 2015.

Glencoe trailed, 7-2, after one quarter before storming back to take a 19-16 lead at halftime on Roff, the top-ranked team entering the postseason. Roff then went in front, 33-32, going into the fourth before opening up a 40-33 lead with six minutes remaining.

But the No. 4 ranked Panthers (30-2) were able to make a big charge and went ahead late. Roff got the lead right back with 30 seconds left on a basket from Cade Baldridge, giving the Tigers a 46-45 advantage.

Roff then drew an offensive foul, getting the ball back. But on the inbounds, Weedn stole the pass while drawing a foul.

Weedn, the son of Glencoe coach Jeff Weedn, then hit the free throws to give the Panthers the lead to stay.

Jordon Beaver led the Panthers with 14 points, while Jaken Weedn added 13. Glencoe also got a big assist from Tre' Speer, who made 5-of-6 free throws in the final quarter.

Roff finished its season 27-4.
