Top 25 Oklahoma high school football rankings (9/27/2023)

All but two teams in the SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 football rankings won this past week, and the two that did not win were involved in matchups against foes also ranked, and much higher. 

Those two dropped, but not out, which means there are no newcomers nor anyone returning to the rankings.

Owasso slipped from 14th to No. 16 after a 55-22 loss to Tulsa Union, and Norman North took a tumble to No. 23 from No. 17 after being derailed, 60-2, by top-ranked Bixby.

Teams ranked 14th, 15th and 17th through 22nd moved up one spot, while the first 13 and the last two remained in the same place.

Here are this week's SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 football rankings. 

1. Bixby (4-0, 1-0 in District 6AI-1)

Previous Game: Beat Norman North, 60-2

Ranking Last Week: No. 1

The Spartans keep putting up the points. They have scored 60 or more points in three straight games after putting up 42 in their opener against Owasso.

In its latest domination, Bixby thrived with its three-quarterback rotation again against previously unbeaten Norman North. Carson Kirby passed for 265 yards and four touchdowns, Clay Peters tossed for 154 and two TDs, and Cooper Parker rushed for 40 yards and one TD. The Spartans had 623 total yards of offense.

The Bixby defense limited the Timberwolves to 220 yards, including just 39 yards rushing.

Bixby led 39-0 at halftime and got all 60 of its points before giving up a safety.

Next is a road trip to a winless team in Southmoore, which the Spartans beat, 80-0, last year.

2. Midwest City Carl Albert (5-0, 1-0 in District 5A-2)

Previous Game: Beat Lawton Eisenhower, 58-9

Ranking Last Week: No. 2

The Titans won their 15th straight game after dispatching the Eagles of Lawton Ike. They have now won each of their games by 23 points or more.

Next Game: at Shawnee (1-3, 0-1), Thursday

3. Jenks (2-2, 1-0 in District 6AI-1)

Previous Game: Beat Enid, 45-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 3

The Trojans are now at .500 after dropping their first two games and got the start they normally expect for district play. In its one-sided romp over Enid, Jenks led 28-0 through one quarter and 42-0 at halftime.

Owen Jones passed for three TDs, Kaydin Jones rushed for two scores, and Corey Foreman caught two TD passes.

Jenks totaled 452 yards of offense while holding Enid to 67 yards and just five first downs.

4. Tulsa Union (3-1, 1-0 in District 6AI-2)

Previous Game: Beat Owasso, 55-22

Ranking Last Week: No. 4

Shaker Reisig put on another big show for the Redhawks in their rout of the Rams, who were ranked 14th at the time. The junior quarterback passed for 322 yards and five TDs on 22-of-28 competitions, a rate of 79 percent.

Jino Boyd, led in receiving with six catches for 124 yards and two TDs, and Jordan Schelling led the ground game with 125 yards on 18 carries and one TD.

Also for Union, Boston Carrasco caught a TD pass and returned a kickoff 99 yards for the last Redhawk TD.

5. Wagoner (4-0, 1-0 in District 4A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Skiatook, 60-13

Ranking Last Week: No. 5

The 4A state champ had no problem storming out the gates in this battle of Bulldogs, as they scored 16 seconds into the game.

Kale Charboneau passed for four TDs and 325 yards, coming up 6 yards shy of Malcolm Rodriguez’s school record set in 2014.

Trenton Edwards ran for 118 yards on three carries, including a TD run of 72 yards. Witt Edwards caught TD passes of 60 and 52 yards as well.

Wagoner now faces a challenge from Oologah, which is coming off a 55-21 rout of Cleveland.

6. Washington (4-0, 1-0 in District 2A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Frederick, 42-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 6

The Class 2A state champion Warriors continued on their quest to repeat with another rout, this time dispensing with the Bombers of Frederick.

7. Guthrie (4-0, 0-0 in District 5A-2)

Previous Game: Idle

Ranking Last Week: 7

The Blue Jays got to have some time off last week. Now this high-scoring shutdown machine welcomes in the Piedmont Wildcats, who are making strides.

Guthrie has outscored its opponents, 194-3, through its first four games. No one has crossed the goal line with a football against its defense yet.

8. OKC Heritage Hall (4-0, 1-0 in District 3A-2)

Previous Game: Beat Lone Grove, 54-21

Ranking Last Week: No. 8

The Chargers’ defense rose up against a Lone Grove offense that had been averaging 40 points per game, not allowing it to score points until midway through the third quarter.

Linebacker Barrett Travis and defensive lineman Zavier Freeman got some sacks and only allowed the Longhorns 59 yards in the first half.

Freeman is the younger brother of OU wide receiver Gavin Freeman, and son of Jason Freeman, who played tight end for OU from 1995-98.

Jordyn Harris was a key offensive factor in the game as he scored on a 59-yard reverse and a 97-yard pass reception from OU commit Andy Bass.

9. Choctaw (2-0, 1-0 in District 6AII-2)

Previous Game: Beat Putnam City North, 47-3

Ranking Last Week: No. 9

JuJu Smith had a big night for the Yellowjackets in their dominance of PC North. First, he took the opening kickoff back for a TD. Choctaw would add a two-point conversion to make it 8-0. Smith then scored twice more, including a short pass on an outside route.

Next Game: vs. OKC Capitol Hill (0-5, 0-2), Thursday

10. Muskogee (3-1, 1-0 in District 6AII-1)

Previous Game: Beat Sand Springs, 51-13

Ranking Last Week: No. 10

Jamarian Ficklin racked up 345 yards of offense with six TDs in the Roughers’ romp over the Sandites on a night in which Muskogee held its athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The game was close early,

Muskogee only led 2-0 in the first quarter as Treyveon Houston tackled a Sand Springs ballcarrier in the end zone.

Although the Roughers never trailed, both teams exchanged TDs, making it a 16-13 game. Muskogee then broke it open late in the first half.

Next on its agenda is a PC West team that has been challenging, despite a loss in its district opener.

11. Poteau (4-0, 1-0 in District 4A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Ft. Gibson, 48-13

Ranking Last Week: 11

The Pirates remain unbeaten after afflicting a 35-point rout to the Tigers. They are the second-highest ranked 4A team in this week's poll.

Next Game: vs. Madill (0-4, 0-1), Friday

12. Tulsa Lincoln Christian (5-0, 1-0 in District 3A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Berryhill, 49-13

Ranking Last Week: 12

Quarterback Luke Milligan threw four TDs while completing 23 passes on 31 attempts for 320 yards in the Bulldogs’ 36-point win against Berryhill.

Lincoln Christian gets a week off next week before returning to action next week.

13. Collinsville (4-0, 1-0 in District 5A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Pryor, 48-26

Ranking Last Week: 13

The Cardinals continue their run toward the 5A playoffs after rocking Pryor. A big challenge awaits when they travel down to T-Town to meet Kelley, who has won two straight after an 0-2 start.

14. OKC Millwood (3-1, 1-0 in District 2A-1)

Previous Game: Beat Alva, 36-13

Ranking Last Week: No. 15

The Falcons did the work they needed to get a convincing win against the Goldbugs and moved up a spot in the poll.

Next Game: vs. Chisholm (3-1, 1-0), Friday

15. Mustang (4-0, 1-0 in District 6AI-2)

Previous Game: Beat Yukon, 49-21

Ranking Last Week: 17

The Broncos are up two spots after winning their sixth straight over their Canadian County Bedlam rival.

They fell behind the Millers 7-0 early, but scored the next 35 points.

Junior quarterback Trajan Williamson impacted Mustang with four TDs, 184 passing yards, and 105 rushing yards. Sophomore receiver Jaden Johnson had four catches for 120 yards and two TDs.

Mustang travels to the Tulsa area this week to meet Owasso, which is coming off a 55-22 loss to Union. The Rams are looking to regroup and avenge a 27-17 loss to the Broncos last year, so it will be a challenge for both teams and it is a key game for the District 6AI-2 race.

16. Owasso (2-2, 0-1 in Class 6AI-2)

Previous Game: Lost to Tulsa Union, 55-22

Ranking Last Week: 14

The Rams know they have a challenge on their hands with an unbeaten Mustang squad coming to their home stadium this week after suffering a disheartening loss to Union last week.

The upcoming game is crucial to the District 6AI-2 race. But Owasso is at least one game better than it was a year ago when it was 1-3 overall. But still, they’re 0-1 in district just as they were at this in 2022 and your district record is all that will matter when playoff time comes around.

Furthermore, the Rams will be looking to get the Broncos back after a 27-17 setback to them last year.

On the plus side last week, Owasso put up some big numbers in stats. Knox Dyson threw for 201 yards on 22-of-32 attempts but was picked off twice. Jayson Moll ran for 91 yards on 13 carries and J'Kharri Thomas caught nine receptions for 115 yards.

17. Fairview (4-0, 1-0 in District A-1)

Previous Game: Beat Hooker, 56-22

Ranking Last Week: 18

The Yellowjackets continue to roll after conquering the Bulldogs by a 34-point margin. Another group of dogs lie in battle next – the Terriers of Thomas.

18. Hominy (4-0, 1-0 in A-5)

Previous Game: Beat Pawnee, 55-22

Ranking Last Week: 19

The Bucks manhandled the Black Bears in a big game, continuing their march in hopes of a spot in the Class A final. They also move up a spot.

Quarterback/defensive back Jaxon Woods completed 10-of-11 passes for 375 yards and six TDs on offense and registered 18 tackles on defense.

Next Game: at Oklahoma Union (0-3, 0-1), Friday

19. Del City (3-0, 1-0 in 5A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Tulsa East Central, 73-0

Ranking Last Week: 20

The Eagles had problems as they put up 70-plus points against the Tulsa Public School team. A big challenge with 5A runner-up McAlester awaits.

20. Gore (4-0, 1-0 in District A-8)

Previous Game: Beat Talihina, 51-12

Ranking Last Week: 21

The Pirates keep cruising with their ship after a romp over the Tigers. Like others before them, they climb a notch.

Next Game: at Canadian (1-2, 0-1), Friday

21. Claremore (4-0, 1-0 in District 5A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Tulsa Hale, 47-7

Ranking Last Week: 22

The Zebras move up after dismantling the Rangers by 40 points. This is a team with experience.

Next Game: at Grove (3-1, 1-0), Friday

22. Ada (4-0, 1-0 in District 4A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Sallisaw, 7-0

Ranking Last Week: 23

The Cougars got a challenge from Sallisaw, but Ada still managed to come out with a victory with just one TD while shutting out the Black Diamonds. They also get a move up.

Next Game: vs. Hilldale (3-1, 1-0), Friday

23. Norman North (3-1, 0-1 in District 6AI-1)

Previous Game: Lost to Bixby, 60-2

Ranking Last Week: 16

The Timberwolves took a big tumble down by seven spots after getting blown out at top-ranked Bixby.

Quarterback Owen Eshelman only got 57 yards on 20 carries on the ground, tossed 133 yards in the air on 21-of-33 attempts, and threw two interceptions.

The Timberwolves got their only points on a safety with the tackle of a Spartan running back in the end zone, coming in the fourth quarter after Bixby put up all its points.

They get a chance to rebound from the blowout when they return to the Tulsa area this week to play Broken Arrow.

24. Tuttle (3-1, 1-0 in District 4A-2)

Previous Game: Beat Bethany, 30-10

Ranking Last Week: 24

Quarterback Jackson Johnson threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns to help the Tigers win against Bethany, bouncing back after a loss to Class 5A stalwart Guthrie one week earlier.

Tuttle scored the last 13 points of the game.

Next Game: vs. Harrah (3-1, 0-1), Friday

25. Piedmont (4-0, 1-0 in District 5A-2)

Previous Game: Beat OKC Southeast 49-6

Ranking Last Week: Unranked

The Wildcats gave up the first TD of the game to the Spartans and were down 6-0, but scored all the rest.

Piedmont thrived with its running attack, including the go-ahead TD from Cannon "The Hammer" Wood and a 50-yard TD by Mikah Rocco in the third quarter.

The Wildcats now have a major task as they meet a Guthrie team, which has not allowed a touchdown, only giving up one field goal this season.
