Oklahoma high school football Top 25 rankings (11/22/2023)

Stillwater makes the largest climb in this week’s SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 football rankings, moving up 15 to No. 10, after its 56-7 domination of Ponca City. 

The defending Class 6AII state champion returned to the list at No. 24 in Week 10 after being ousted after the second week of the regular season as the result of an 0-2 start. But they have not lost since.

As a result of the losses by Guthrie, Elgin, Tulsa Bishop Kelley and Collinsville, those teams dropped out as a result of being eliminated from the playoffs and their seasons coming to an end, while other teams moved one to two spots up.

Here is this week's SBLive Oklahoma Top 25: 

1. Bixby (11-0 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Beat Norman, 59-20

Ranking Last Week: No. 1

Another rout for Bixby as it racked up its points in the first half, and not yielding any points to the opponent until the second. The Spartans scored on all eight of their first-half possessions and led 29-0 through the end of the first quarter and 59-0 by halftime.

Carson Kirby threw five touchdowns, and Kordell Gouldsby scored three TDs, one on a 66-yard punt return, another rushing, and another receiving. Next on deck are the Rams of Owasso, whom Bixby beat in a 63-point rout in the 2022 6AI final and 42-16 in the season opener.

2. Midwest City Carl Albert (12-0 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Collinsville, 52-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 2

The Titans got revenge against the team that ousted them from the 2021 Class 5A state semifinals, playing with total domination en route to a 42-0 lead at halftime. The Cardinals beat Carl Albert in a thriller that year, disrupting the Titans’ current dynasty, which consists of six of the last seven 5A state titles. Collinsville went on to win state in ‘21.

CA went up by two TDs in the opening period with Kevin Sperry throwing a 43-yard TD to Christian Oku and following up with a 21-yard TD. Sperry, an Oklahoma commit, also threw an 18-yard TD to Caden Davis and added a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter. Sperry finished with 242 yards passing on 8-of-9 attempts.

Another OU commit, Xavier Robinson, ran for a 5-yard TD, and Trystan Haynes returned an interception 58 yards to the end zone. The Titans’ 10 second-half points came by way of a second pick-six from Bradyn Webb, who took it back 89 yards, and a 30-yard field goal by Ethan Spiwak.

3. Wagoner (12-0 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Tuttle, 30-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 3

Junior linebacker/running back Bryce Steel forced 16 tackles and had a TD run as the Bulldogs shut out the tradition-rich Tigers. Trenton Edwards scored two TDs, a 27-yard run and a 28-yard reception from quarterback Kale Charboneau, who passed for 107 yards on 9-of-16 attempts and one interception.

Wagoner finished with 351 yards while limiting Tuttle to 123. The Bulldogs now take on a program that has won the most state championships in Oklahoma, Ada.

4. Washington (12-0 in Class 2A)

Previous Game: Beat Meeker, 56-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 4

The Warriors reach the 2A quarterfinals for a seventh straight year. Hudson Howard ran for more than 200 yards, contributing to his team’s 419 yards of offense in the win against Meeker.

Nathan Spaulding and Keller Howard led the Washington defense with 11 and 10 tackles, respectively. Spaulding also had four stops that went for loss of yardage.

The Warriors will face Vian in the quarterfinals, a rematch of both teams' season opener in August, which was won by Washington.

5. OKC Heritage Hall (12-0 in Class 3A)

Previous Game: Beat Berryhill, 49-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 5

The Chargers continue their quest to repeat as the 3A champion after a lopsided shutout of Berryhill. Next is a Marlow team that knocked off Tulsa area private schools Metro Christian and Cascia Hall in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Outlaws also won the Class 2A state championship in 2021 before being moved up to 3A last year.

6. Tulsa Union (10-1 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Beat Westmoore, 35-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 7

Shaker Reisig was welcomed back with open arms by the Redhawks after returning from injury. The Union quarterback threw for 284 yards and two TDs on 26-of-35 pass attempts. He was never picked off. Both scores, an 8-yarder to Braylen Danzy and one for 22 yards to Jino Boyd, lifted Reisig's team to a 14-0 first half lead.

Boyd produced a game-high 106 yards on seven receptions, and Brendon McQueen caught a game-high nine passes for 80 yards.

After a 14-7 halftime lead, Isaac Covington scored rushing TDs from 1 and 31 yards, and Jordan Schelling scored one from 23 yards in the second half.

7. Poteau (12-0 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Newcastle, 28-18

Ranking Last Week: No. 8

Jackson Sommers ran for 183 yards on 11 carries and two TDs in the Pirates’ 10-point win against the Racers.

Next Game: vs. Blanchard (11-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Catoosa

8. Owasso (9-2 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Beat Norman North, 50-21

Ranking Last Week: No. 9

Sophomore Noah Hill caught seven passes for 111 yards and one TD, had a 52-yard kickoff return, a 33-yard punt return, and kicked a 38-yard field goal in the Rams’ dominating win against Norman North.

Quarterback Knox Dyson, who played last year at Rejoice Christian, passed for four TDs and 234 yards on 20-of-25 attempts. Running back Jayden Hall rushed for 100 yards on 16 carries and two TDs.

The Rams will get another shot at Bixby, whom they’ve lost the last three meetings to in routs, including last year’s Class 6AI state championship and this year’s season opener.

9. Tulsa Lincoln Christian (12-0 in Class 3A)

Previous Game: Beat Sulphur, 45-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 10

Sawyer Brooks ran for 87 yards on 13 carries, forced 13 tackles, two for losses, and blocked a punt that was returned for a TD in Lincoln Christian’s win against Sulphur.

Next Game: vs. Perkins-Tryon (11-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Bristow

10. Stillwater (9-2 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Beat Putnam City, 56-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 15

The Pioneers jump up five spots after a big romp over the Pirates in the 6AII quarterfinal. Holden Thompson started things off with a 62-yard run to the end zone to give his team a 7-0 lead. Chance Acord followed up a 72-yard TD pass to Trey Tuck for Stillwater’s second TD. Acord then hit Talon Kendrick for a 26-yard TD, making it 21-0 before the first quarter ended.

Acord threw for five TDs and 351 yards on 11-of-13 passing. Tuck caught two passes, both scores, for 118 yards.

Stillwater will meet Choctaw in the Class 6AII state semifinal round this week, in what will be a rematch of last year’s final, in which the Pioneers beat the Yellowjackets, 26-21.

11. OKC Millwood (10-1 in Class 2A)

Previous Game: Beat Purcell, 38-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 11

The Falcons took care of business in a 24-point win over the Dragons in the second round. Now they face another test against an unbeaten Idabel team in the quarterfinals.

Next Game: vs. Idabel (12-0), 1 p.m. Friday at East Central University in Ada.

12. Choctaw (8-1 in Class 6AII)

Previous Game: Beat Sand Springs, 45-15

Ranking Last Week: No. 12

The Yellowjackets socked the Sandites with 505 yards of total offense and surged to a 22-0 lead at halftime. Quarterback Cash Williams, wide receiver Hayden Mounce and running back Mayor Morgan scored the TDs on runs of 47, 51 and 36, respectively. Morgan finished with three TDs with additional runs of 7 and 12 yards.

Choctaw meets Stillwater in the Class 6AII state semifinal round this week, in what will be a rematch of last year’s final, in which the Yellowjackets were defeated by the Pioneers, 26-21.

Next game: vs. Stillwater (9-2), 7 p.m., Friday at Edmond North

13. Fairview (12-0 in Class A)

Previous Game: Beat Crescent, 19-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 13

Fairview continued its defense of its Class A championship with a win against Crescent. Jax Bernard ran in a 4-yard TD and caught another for 51 yards from Isaiah Burris to give the Yellowjackets a 13-0 lead.

Burris rushed for 157 yards and caught four receptions for 84 yards.

Next Game: vs. Stroud (10-2), 7 p.m., Friday at Moore

14. Hominy (12-0 in A-5)

Previous Game: Beat Wyandotte, 49-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 14

Jaxon Woods accounted for 328 yards and four TDs, while Blake Hipp caught seven passes for 141 yards and two TDs in the Bucks’ romp over Wyandotte.

Next Game: vs. Apache (10-1), 7 p.m., Friday at Kingfisher

15. Muskogee (9-2 in Class 6AII)

Previous Game: Beat Ponca City, 34-10

Ranking Last Week: No. 16

The Roughers make it to the state 6AII semifinals for the second straight year using their ground game and clutch defensive play in their win against the Wildcats. Muskogee led, 14-10, going into the final quarter before finishing off the game with a 20-0 run.

LaTavian Johnson rushed for three TDs, including two in the fourth quarter, and 141 yards. Rougher linebacker Tim Moore intercepted a pass at the Muskogee 29-yard line to stop a Ponca City drive on fourth down with 8:37 left, setting up Johnson’s second TD of the game, which made it 28-10.

Next Game: vs. Edmond Deer Creek (9-2), 7 p.m., Friday at Ponca City

16 Del City (11-0, in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Guthrie, 47-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 17

The Eagles made a statement in shattering a Guthrie team that gave up only 33 points in the regular season. Del City proved to be more physical and had no fear of the Bluejays' defense by any means.

On its first drive, it drove in 5:30 to score on a 1-yard run by senior Braelon Adamah. River Warren then hit TCU commit LaDanian Fields for a TD pass with 2:21 left in the first quarter, making it a 14-0 game. The Eagles’ defense stymied the Guthrie offense all night long.

Adamah added another TD on a 90-yard punt return and it was 21-0. Del City led 34-0 at intermission.

17. Claremore (11-1 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Elgin, 7-6

Ranking Last Week: No. 19

After winning a high-scoring offensive battle by one point over Sapulpa in the first round the previous week, the Zebras stunned Elgin by a point in a low-scoring defensive battle in the quarterfinals. Claremore is in the state semifinals for the first time since 1987 and is 4-1 in one-point games this season.

The game was scoreless until Elgin's Matt Lund scored on a 36-yard run with 11:11 left. But the extra point was missed. A 3-yard TD by Braxton Etheridge, followed by the extra point from Zane Hepler, put the Zebras ahead of the Owls, 7-6, with 4:49 left in the game, and the score ended there.

Despite allowing Lund to run for 251 yards on 26 carries, Claremore’s defense made crucial stops when it needed to the most, including three interceptions. Senior Josh Bump had one of those picks. He also recovered a fumbled punt and had a key first-down reception.

18. Jenks (7-4 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Beat Edmond Santa Fe, 24-10

Ranking Last Week: No. 20

Jenks avenged a season-opening 27-26 loss to the Wolves. Junior running back/defensive lineman Hudson Ball scored two fourth-quarter TDs to break a 10-all tie and an impressive defensive effort helped lift the Trojans to victory.

Jenks took an early 7-0 lead on a 6-yard run by Simian Gilkey and also led, 10-3, at halftime.

Next Game: vs. Tulsa Union (10-1), 7 p.m., Friday at Sand Springs

19. Blanchard (11-1 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Sallisaw, 55-28

Ranking Last Week: 21

Bryson Cooksey passed for 282 yards, and Tyler Hughes ran for 109 as the Lions rolled past the Black Diamonds.

Next Game: vs. Poteau (12-0), 7 p.m., Friday at Catoosa

20. Edmond Deer Creek (9-2 in District 6AII-2)

Previous Game: Beat Bartlesville, 35-7

Ranking Last Week: 22

Grady Adamson passed for two TDs and 221 yards on 9-of-12 attempts as the Antlers buried the Bruins, advancing to another trip to the state semifinals.

Next Game: vs. Muskogee (9-2), 7 p.m., Friday at Ponca City

21. Ada (10-1 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Clinton, 21-9

Ranking Last Week: No. 25

Deante Lindsay returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a TD and also caught a 60-yard TD pass to help the Cougars in their win over the tradition-rich Red Tornadoes. Key defensive plays by Brock Boyles and Kolton Carlock also contributed to the win.

Next Game: vs. Wagoner (12-0), 7 p.m., Friday at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany

22. Idabel (12-0 in Class 2A)

Previous Game: Beat Kansas, 42-28

Ranking Last Week: Unranked

The unbeaten Warriors are in the poll for the first time this season. They now have the challenge facing the 2A runner-up in the quarterfinals this week.

Next Game: vs. OKC Millwood (11-1), 1 p.m., Friday at East Central University in Ada

23. Perkins-Tryon (11-1 in Class 3A)

Previous Game: Beat Tulsa Holland Hall, 65-0

Ranking Last Week: Unranked

The Demons are in the poll for the first time this season after dominating the Dutchmen. They will meet an unbeaten squad in Lincoln Christian in the state semis.

Next Game: vs. Lincoln Christian (12-0), 7 p.m., Friday at Bristow

24. OKC Bishop McGuinness (8-3 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Tulsa Bishop Kelley, 28-14

Ranking Last Week: Unranked

The Fightin’ Irish return to the Top 25 for the first time since earlier this season after eliminating their Tulsa Catholic school counterparts, avenging an earlier season loss to Bishop Kelley. Now they must face district rival and 5A state champion Carl Albert, who is seeking a repeat.

Next Game: vs. MWC Carl Albert (12-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Noble

25. Marlow (9-3 in Class 3A)

Previous Game: Beat Tulsa Cascia Hall, 45-7

Ranking Last Week: Unranked

The Outlaws, state champions in Class 2A in 2021, are also in the poll for the first time this year and are in the state semifinals in Class 3A. In a domination of the Commandos, Hudson Morgan scored two TDs of 2 and 6-yard runs, and another on a 38-yard TD rush by Clint Ladon, giving Marlow a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. That jumpstarted the Outlaws’ onslaught.

Next Game: vs. OKC Heritage Hall (12-0), 1 p.m. Friday at Newcastle
