Oklahoma high school girls basketball Top 25 rankings (1/16/2024)

Top two teams (Edmond North, Putnam City West) could face off this week

Though the weather across Oklahoma has gotten rather frigid these days, the action remains hot in the landscape of high school girls basketball.

Here is the latest weekly edition of the SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 girls basketball rankings for the 2023-24 season.

Note: Records are prior to games Jan. 13.

1. Edmond North (9-0)

The Lady Huskies' train kept on rolling with dominating wins over Moore and Capitol Hill. The upcoming Jenks/Union Invitational may provide a test for the defending champs. A possible matchup against No. 2 Putnam City West could be in the cards for fans.

2. Putnam City West (12-0)

PCW jumped into the Top 20 rankings of a national website recently. But that didn’t detract them from winning the Putnam City Invitational earlier this month. Tuesday, the Lady Patriots are scheduled to face off against Norman High for the second time, which will pit McDonald’s All-American nominee Caya Smith against Norman's Keeley Parks. But a possible contest against No. 1 Edmond North at the Jenks/Union Invitational will be the most anticipated game of the year.

3. Bethany (9-2)

After losing to Edmond North at the Mustang Holiday Classic, Bethany has been on a tear. They won their next their next four games by a combined score of 318-145. Led by McDonald’s All-American nominee Zya Vann, the Bronchos headed to Washington D.C. Jan. 13 for the 5th Annual St. James MLK Classic, where they were scheduled to face No. 20 St. Johns College Prep and No. 8 Morris Catholic.

4. El Reno (12-0)

Coach Jennifer Douglas and her El Reno squad have yet to be tested as they dispatched every team that they have stepped on the court with during 2024 by at least 20 points.

5. Edmond Memorial (10-1)

Wins over Enid and Tulsa Union have stretched the Lady Bulldogs' win streak to 10 games. However, a rematch with Sand Springs is on tap for Tuesday. The Sandites are the only team to beat Memorial so far this season.

6. Lincoln Christian (14-2)

Lincoln Christian won its own Winter Classic last week. But more importantly, they got revenge against Stilwell, which had beaten the Lady Bulldogs earlier in the season.

7. Tahlequah (14-1)

The Lady Tigers' two toughest games came earlier this month in wins over Coweta and Bishop Kelley. However, they will see Booker T. Washington for a second time on Tuesday.

8. Midwest City (10-1)

The Bombers took home the Ada Holiday Classic by rolling through Ponca City, Ardmore and Ada.

9. Dale (16-0)

The Lady Pirates took down all comers at the Kingston New Year Classic to earn their second tournament championship of the season. Before that, they had their biggest scare when they held off 3A school Jones in overtime, 52-49.

10. Choctaw (11-0)

It took a two-point overtime win over Duncan in the semifinals of the Weatherford Tournament to keep the Yellowjackets undefeated. But that was all they needed to cruise on to win the tourney championship.

11. Anadarko (13-1)

The Lady Warriors suffered their first defeat of the season when they fell to El Reno in the championship game of the MidFirst Classic. Along with a 38-34 defeat at the hands of Kingfisher, it was enough to drop AHS a few spots.

12. Idabel (12-1)

The Lady Warriors have reeled off nine straight wins since a defeat to defending 4A state champion Bethany at the Tournament of Champions in Fort Smith, Ark. Idabel will participate at the Atoka Classic later this week.

13. Washington (12-1)

The Washington Warriors tournament is on deck for Jan. 18-20. A strong field is expected to challenge the Lady Warriors.

14. Midwest City Carl Albert (10-2)

In their first contest in 2024, the Lady Titans fell to Shawnee by eight but in their next game, they rebounded with a 73-16 win against Western Heights. They will host the Titan Classic later this week, which should help continue to get them back on track.

15. Stilwell (10-2)

After dropping a game to Lincoln Christian in the semifinals of the Lady Bulldogs' Winter Classic, the Lady Indians rebounded with a win against perennial 4A power Fort Gibson in the third-place game. Stilwell then added wins against two more solid 4A programs in Muldrow and Sallisaw. This week, the Lady Indians take part in the Fort Gibson Tournament.

16. Owasso (11-2)

The Rams lost to Stilwell in the opening round of the Lincoln Christian Tournament. It was a tight contest, but the Rams didn’t have enough on that night. But Owasso has reeled off four straight wins since, all in decisive fashion.

17. Sapulpa (11-4)

Lincoln Christian handed the defending 5A champions a six-point defeat in the championship game at the Lady Bulldogs' Winter Classic. They bounced back last week with solid victories against a pair of Tulsa schools, Memorial and Edison.

18. Seiling (9-2)

SHS was back on the grind after dropping a pair of games to close out 2023. The Lady Wildcats beat Fairview, 70-30, to pick up their ninth win.

19. Howe (11-2)

Despite falling to Hartshorne, Howe has put together a solid resume to date. The Lady Lions now set their sights on the always competitive LeFlore County Tournament, taking place all week long.

20. Mustang (9-4)

After not making the initial poll, the Broncos have played their way into the rankings this week after blowing out Moore. They then put away a solid Norman North squad by 14 points.

21. Glenpool (9-1)

Even though GHS lost to Broken Arrow (6A) to kick off the ConocoPhillips Arvest Invitational, they came back to beat Tulsa Memorial and Bixby to close out the tourney.

22. Norman (8-5)

After a tough start to the season, the Lady Tigers have started to pick up their play. They have won three straight heading into their contest with Putnam City West on Tuesday.

23. Yukon (10-3)

The Millerette's three losses have come against Putnam City West, Norman and Glenpool. They have a rematch with Edmond Santa Fe on Tuesday before heading into the Shawnee Invitational.

24. Dover (16-0)

No team has more wins at this point in the season than the Lady Longhorns. However, Lomega, Lookeba-Sickles and Geronimo are hot on their tails in Class B.

25. Merritt (13-1)

The Lady Oilers are doing their part in becoming a contender in 2A. Their lone defeat was by five points to 5A Carl Albert at the Bertha Teague Classic, but followed that up with a win against another 5A squad, McAlester. Then, they easily handled the competition to win their own Merritt Classic.
