Vote: Who should be SBLive's Oklahoma High School Athlete of the Week (1/29/2024)?

It's still practically a new year, and several athletes across the state continue to make a presence for themselves. 

Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oklahoma High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 22-28. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. If you would like to nominate an athlete, email athleteoftheweek@scorebooklive.com or tag us on Twitter. 

Kate Wernli, Bixby girls basketball

Wernli scored 23 points, accounting for half of the Lady Spartans' points as they edged Broken Arrow, 46-44, on Jan. 27.

Chance Handley, Catoosa boys basketball

Handley scored 24 points, along with four boards, four assists and seven steals, in a 71-68 win against Skiatook on Jan. 26.

Brie Smith, Collinsville girls basketball

Smith had 25 points, including the 1,000th point of her career, as the Lady Cardinals posted a 62-37 win against Claremore on Jan. 26.

Cal Furnish, Crossings Christian boys basketball

Furnish had a team-high 19 points as the Knights defeated Class 3A top-ranked Oklahoma Christian School, 67-56, on Jan. 26, avenging a loss to the Saints last season. He also had his 1,000th career point.

Jason Dodson, Plainview boys basketball

Dodson scored 24 points - 11 coming in the opening quarter - and also hit three 3-pointers in Plainview's 72-60 win against Lone Grove on Jan. 23.

Yanni Morris, Sand Springs girls basketball

Morris scored a game-winning layup with time running out that lifted the Lady Sandites to a 40-38 win against Owasso on Jan. 26.

Jerney Bennett, Edmond Santa Fe girls basketball

Bennett had 28 points, going 10-of-15 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line, as Santa Fe handed Putnam City West its first loss of the season, 58-53, on Jan. 23.

Ethan Taber, Holland Hall boys basketball

Taber was a perfect 10-of-10 from the field en route to scoring 22 points in the Dutch's 64-43 win against Sapulpa. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Taber had 10 points on Jan. 24 as well in a 46-37 win against Tulsa Memorial.

Ava McIntyre, Oklahoma Christian School girls basketball

McIntyre turned in a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds in her team's 52-33 win against Crossings Christian on Jan. 26.

Carter RomanNose, El Reno boys basketball

RomanNose had 31 points, all in the first half, as the Indians rolled to a decisive win against Altus. In that same game, he had his 1,000th career point.

Mataya Hall, Tulsa Memorial girls basketball

Hall scored 45 points in a decisive win against crosstown rival Edison on Jan. 27, capping a week in which she scored a total of 79 points over a three-game span.

Steven Anderson, Midwest City Carl Albert boys basketball

Anderson had a team-high 21 points for the Titans in their 75-57 win against El Reno on Jan. 23.

Lakin Gaddy, Alva girls basketball

Gaddy poured in 21 points to help Alva past Woodward, 55-47, on Jan. 23.

Chris Mason, Victory Christian boys basketball

Mason had a double-double of 25 points and 19 rebounds to go along with five steals in the Conquerors' 64-57 win against Metro Christian on Jan. 26.

Jasmine Garcia-Howell, Pawnee girls basketball

Garcia-Howell scored a total of 36 points in wins against Wellston and Yale, as Pawnee extended its winning streak to nine straight games.

Chiante' Tramble, Edmond North boys basketball

Tramble had 21 of his 24 points in the second half as the Huskies went on to defeat crosstown rival Deer Creek, 59-52, to move to 12-2 on the season. He also averaged 27 points and had 13 total 3-pointers in the wins against Deer Creek as well as Edmond Memorial.

Noah Robinson, Community Christian boys basketball

Robinson had 17 points and went 5-of-8 from 3-point range in his team's 59-43 win against Harding Charter on Jan. 26.

Brandie Harrod, Oklahoma City Millwood girls basketball

Harrod had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds and also blocked two shots as Millwood handed Dale its first loss on the season, 55-51, on Jan. 23.

Lane Gourley, Little Axe boys wrestling

A senior, Gourley won the 215-pound weight class title at the Midwestern Conference Tournament in Shawnee in dramatic fashion, winning the first-place match in double overtime against Ada's Cord Coffee. Gourley also won his 100th career match last week.

Trinity Rakestraw, Tecumseh girls wrestling

Rakestraw recorded three pin-fall victories en route to claiming the 130-pound weight class championship at the Midwestern Conference Tournament in Shawnee.
