Haworth (Oklahoma) boys basketball team sets state record for most 3-pointers in one game

Lions launch 27 treys in decisive win against Arkansas school

On Friday night, the shots were definitely falling for the boys' basketball squad from Haworth, Okla.

In fact, the Lions set a state record for most shots from beyond the arc.

Haworth - located in the southeast corner of the state - launched 27 3-pointers in a 116-47 win against Foreman, Ark., which is just across the border from Haworth.

The Lions' 27 3's tied for sixth all-time in the NFHS record book and set a state record. The previous record for most 3's in an Oklahoma high school game was 26, set last season by Glencoe.

Ironically, the coach at Glencoe last season - Jeff Weedn - is now the first-year coach at Haworth.

In Friday's game, junior Zayne Clampet hit 11 3's - nine coming in the first half. Those 11 treys accounted for all of his 33 points, but he was not the team's top scorer.

That honor went to Jaxton Weedn, the coach's son, who finished with 36 points. He also converted seven 3's.

Kyren Matthews was also in double figures with 15 points - all coming courtesy of five 3's. Christian Smith added nine points, coming on three treys, while the Lions' other 3 came from Cole Clardy.

The Lions made 16 3's in the first half as part of their 73-point production by halftime. Friday's win was also the first game played in Haworth's brand-new gymnasium.

Haworth (16-8), which plays in Class 2A, wraps up its regular season on Monday against Colbert. The Lions then take on Howe in the 2A district playoffs on Feb. 17.
