Jackson Shelstad of West Linn, Kyleigh Brown of Silverton lead all-tournament honors at Capitol City Classic

In his four games, Shelstad, a University of Oregon commit, had totals of 113 points, 18 assists, 16 rebounds and 10 steals.

When it came to the top honors for the Oregon Army National Guard Boys Bracket play at the Capitol City Classic, a high-level basketball tournament held Dec. 16-21 at Willamette University in Salem, the West Linn team took it all.

Not only did the Lions claim the championship at the 16-team event, edging St. John Bosco, Calif., 60-57 in the title game, but West Linn senior guard Jackson Shelstad was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. 

In his four games, Shelstad, a University of Oregon commit, had totals of 113 points, 18 assists, 16 rebounds and 10 steals. He scored 35 points to go with five rebounds and four steals for West Linn in a 68-56 overtime win over Modesto Christian, Calif., in the semifinals, and he scored a game-high 24 points and had three assists in the title-game victory.

Also for West Linn, senior guard Adrian Mosley was an all-tournament second-team pick and senior guard Sam Leavitt earned all-tournament third-team accolades.

Joining Shelstad on the all-tournament first team were Elzie Harrington from St. John Bosco, BJ Davis from Modesto Christian, Gresham’s Esyah Pippa-White, Beaverton’s Jalen Childs and Wilsonville’s Kallen Gutridge.

Other players on the second team were Jack Turner and Kade Bonam from St. John Bosco, Modesto Christian’s Jalen Brown, Cascade’s Spencer Horne and West Salem’s Jackson Leach.

Other players named to the third team were Beaverton’s Brady Rice, Wilsonville’s Maxim Wu, Sprague’s Liam Spencer, West Salem’s Jimmy Lathen and Bryson McGlothin from John Paul II, Texas.

For the eight-team Capitol Toyota Girls Bracket, which was held Dec. 19-21 at Corban University in Salem, Silverton junior Kyleigh Brown was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Brown scored a game-high 26 points for the Foxes in their 60-51 win over Oregon City in the tournament championship game.

Joining Brown on the all-tournament first team were Oregon City’s Mollie Miller, Willamette’s Brynn Smith, West Salem’s Lizzy Bennett and Putnam’s Riley Greenleaf.

The second team consisted of Willamette’s Izzie Harms, Putnam’s Emma McDonald, Oregon City’s Daizy Boiling-Schmidt, West Salem’s Emma Zuniga, Central’s Sadie Wendring and Silverton’s Kristen Kuenzi.
